Chapter 29: The Demonic Enchantress and the Aloof Buddhist Monk (15)
This is utterly ridiculous. Just how many people does this demonic cult have? An entire mountain is densely packed with them, stretching as far as the eye can see! Regardless of their individual strength, when it comes to overwhelming numbers, they don’t stand a chance, do they? If only we had contacted the imperial court earlier and begged the emperor to send troops to eradicate them!
Is it still possible to turn back and retreat now?
The cult members, some sitting, some standing, were as numerous as blooming flowers. One of them, Fan Sijin, rested her snow-white feet on the armrest of the cult leader’s throne. Spotting some familiar faces below, she waved gracefully at the nuns from the Emei Sect and smiled sweetly.
How long had it been since they last met? If she hadn’t seen the words “Emei” carved on their swords, Fan Sijin might have mistaken them for some group of stout women from elsewhere!
Xiao Xiao, standing nearby, picked up a folding fan and covered her mouth with a charming smile. “Oh my, these delicate beauties—who do they belong to, I wonder?”
“Ah, by the way, where are the Emei nuns? Why is it only you rough folks here? The stench is unbearable; I can’t even stand to smell it,” Fan Sijin teased.
She laughed lightly, with an uninhibited and radiant charm, as if she found the whole situation merely amusing and nothing else.
The two women’s joint ridicule made the lead nun, Master Cifa, tremble with anger. “Wicked woman! Hand over the antidote now, or you’ll regret it today!”
“Didn’t I say before that as long as you avoid meat, the poison will dissipate naturally? But judging by your behavior… it seems the Emei nuns have broken their precepts, haven’t they?” Fan Sijin chuckled, her small feet lightly shaking, the sound of bells tinkling softly.
“Frankly, you’re utterly useless. I planted the hunger poison on Kong Xuan, and he’s perfectly fine. You, on the other hand, lack the Buddha’s spirit and even your willpower is weak. No wonder someone else could become a Buddha’s disciple while you old nuns only sow death and destruction!”
Her words were poisonous enough to almost distort Master Cifa’s features with rage. With a fiery glare, she drew her sword and pointed it at Fan Sijin. “If I do not crush this Overlord Sect today, I will no longer consider myself a nun!”
“Can you still call yourself human?” Xiao Xiao spat at her. “Right now, you’re nothing but a pig.”
Master Cifa was relatively composed, but the younger nuns behind her were heartbroken. Though they were young and had taken vows, they were still women who loved beauty. Unfortunately, after all these months...
When Fan Sijin mentioned Kong Xuan, a nun in white robes stepped forward and demanded, “Where is Master Kong Xuan? What have you done to him? Hand him over at once!”
Fan Sijin squinted, studying her for a moment before recognizing her as Kong Xuan’s cherished love.
One couldn’t blame her; the nuns all looked rather plump, their features so close together it was difficult to tell them apart—definitely not a case of facial blindness.
“What’s it to you? I’m not telling,” Fan Sijin smiled.
The beloved was annoyed but dared not act rashly with her master nearby.
—
“Miss Fan!” Master Kongjing stepped forward, palms pressed together, reciting a Buddhist chant. “Amitabha, may I ask if my junior brother is well?”
“Guess,” Fan Sijin replied.
Master Kongjing was speechless. Could they no longer have a proper fight or conversation?
“I do not know. Please, young lady, enlighten me.”
Fan Sijin responded cheerfully, “Old monk, don’t worry. He’s fine. We’re about to get married soon!”
Silence fell.
Everyone was stunned. What nonsense was this little troublemaker spouting? Who was marrying whom? Had their ears suddenly failed them? Was this some kind of temporary deafness?
A monk getting married? The first time in a thousand years! Could it possibly get any stranger?
“I want to marry him, to be his wife. Old monk, do you agree?” Fan Sijin pressed on.
Master Kongjing’s heart sank.
He had been a monk all his life, respected by all, living with integrity and honesty.
Because of his age and martial prowess, he was a revered elder in the martial world. When disputes arose between sects, they often came to him for mediation. But now...
His eyes glazed over as he thought, maybe he really was getting old and his hearing failing. Otherwise, how could he have heard this young girl say she wanted to marry his junior brother?
After a long pause, the white-bearded old monk smiled bitterly. “Young devotee, my junior brother Kong Xuan is a monk. Do you know that monks cannot marry?”
For some reason, he sensed this young devotee was exceptionally clever and instinctively softened his tone, even though he knew she was a formidable troublemaker—otherwise, how could she have injured him so easily before? But Master Kongjing did not hold a grudge; it was simply a matter of skill.
“Hmph, whether you agree or not, Kong Xuan will marry me.”
—
Fan Sijin snorted and turned around to ask loudly, “Monk, am I right?”
At that moment, Kong Xuan stepped forward, clad in gray robes.
Despite standing among the demonic cultists, his features remained handsome and compassionate.
Seeing Master Kongjing below, he first pressed his palms together and chanted “Amitabha” before saying, “Senior brother, after this matter is settled, I shall return to secular life and become Fan Sijin’s husband.”
Master Kongjing was utterly dumbfounded.
The old white-bearded monk looked adorably stunned, so Fan Sijin laughed and, in front of the world’s heroes, leaned on Kong Xuan, who remained gentle and tender with her.
Whispers arose among the crowd, even members of the Overlord Sect looked surprised.
No one else knew about this except their own leader; even Xiao Xiao was in the dark.
“My daughter has taken a liking to this monk. If anyone objects, feel free to speak out. No need to hide anything,” the Overlord Sect leader roared, exerting his inner power, his voice like a thunderclap.
Yet no one dared respond.
Sometimes one could judge the depth of a person’s inner strength from their voice alone.
It was clear the Overlord Sect leader had mastered profound divine skills. Coupled with the cunning little troublemaker beside him and the expert in traps and hidden weapons, Xiao Xiao, today they had practically delivered themselves into the enemy’s hands.
Seeing no reply, the Overlord Sect leader laughed heartily. “Who would have thought you would come to this! Who would have thought that today I could personally slay my enemies!”
After his laughter faded, his expression turned cold and ruthless. “Now, prepare to depart for the afterlife.”
As he spoke, his hand slowly rose, a visible glow gathering in his palm.
At that moment, Kong Xuan stepped forward, palms together, calm and dignified. “I beseech the leader’s mercy. Spare the innocent.”
The Overlord Sect leader’s face tightened. “What did you say? Are you seeking death? Don’t think you can act recklessly just because my daughter fancies you! Who do you think you are, some savior? Step aside, or I’ll kill you too!”
