Chapter 30: A Thorough Beating
"I haven't the time to play games with you people," Moqi Yue muttered.
She had important business today: waiting for news at Shao Chengling's estate. She had intended to call for Little Pu, but seeing how frail he looked, she hadn't the heart to wake him. She simply instructed him to get some rest; after all, now that her godmother was close to being rescued, a little more time wouldn't make a difference. The carriage of General Qingyuan's manor gradually disappeared around the corner, and Moqi Yue, having changed into men's clothing, slipped out through the back gate.
After Manager Wei finished speaking, he hurriedly opened the car door and left. Yang Mu, however, remained standing there in a daze, ruminating on the manager's words, until the urge for a cigarette drove him to rush off to buy a pack.
For a moment, the entirety of the Infinite Taoist Temple was illuminated by the sword light in the sky. The shadow of the Solitary Sword Immortal loomed over, casting itself directly upon the immortal blade held by the Drunken Sword Immortal.
Just as Yang Mu was holding a photograph and questioning passersby, Danya called him, but upon answering, he discovered it was a man's voice on the other end.
Zhang Yun was focused entirely on applying medicine to Xu Li, not daring the slightest lapse in concentration. Yet, compared to Zhang Yun's unfazed demeanor, Xu Li appeared far more flustered.
Cold sweat broke out on Qin Ruo's forehead. As he swept his flashlight downward, he saw that the deep pit at his feet was filled with long swords pointed upward.
We reached the front of the castle, which was truly magnificent. Before we even arrived at the entrance, several bodyguards had already come out to greet us.
Dong Yunrou's tears fell, shedding so abruptly and without warning. Only a short while ago, she had been smiling down at everyone with a haughty air, yet now, at the mere mention of Danya, she had burst into tears.
Li Zifeng heard what Grandfather Xu Fu had to say, but he shook his head. I felt he was lying—truly lying this time—because I could see his face turning pale.
"I know they want to kill me, but they have to be capable of it first. Don't worry," Qin Ruo said with a smile.
With no further obstacles, Yun Ji and his two companions dragged their exhausted bodies toward the craftsmen, and in no time, the craftsmen were all slain.
Supported by two servants, Wei Wuzhi fled in disgrace, his face dark with fury. Hearing the snickers of Zhang Maocai and the others behind him, along with the crowd's cheers for Jia Cong, his face burned even hotter.
"What, is it not allowed to investigate someone suspected of betraying the village, especially when there is concrete evidence?" Nakamura Taira retorted.
Shangguan Chuanyun entered the single room. The furnishings were sparse: just a bed, a table, and a stool. Simple as it was, the place was spotless, suggesting it was cleaned frequently.
"We two have been ordered to apprehend a high-profile criminal. Please forgive our intrusion, Master!" People are always prone to bullying the weak and fearing the strong, and the Embroidered Uniform Envoys were no exception.
"I have no desire to see you. Let us settle this on the battlefield!" Yun Ji loathed Ba Zhe Tianxia, for this very person was the one who had harmed him, Xiao Feng.
This was a twisted set of values: to suffer a caning at court was to be a loyal official, a name etched into history. They were practically eager to bare their buttocks for the beating.
After Qi Siyu ran off, Ye Lingchuan walked over with a look of utter disgust. He hoisted Xixiang, who was as drunk as mud, up against himself and staggered away.
However, this actually made Zhou Ke feel much more balanced and relieved; at least the person suffering from heartache was not a heartless man.
"No, if she dies, we lose our chance to escape the county seat," Xiao Nannan said, clutching the old lady's arm.
Shangguan Shi felt incredibly helpless. How could she not speak? Doing so was merely acting, and the goal was simple: to further humiliate them.
That was exactly what Lü Fei meant, and it was of vital importance. Money is not omnipotent, but without it, one can do nothing. The logic was simple and realistic; no matter how capable Zhao Liuru was, if she had no money, she would be completely helpless.
When Wu Li arrived, he saw Liu Lingshuang holding a piece of calligraphy. It went without saying that anything Wang Tian and Liu Lingshuang deemed worthy could not be anything less than exceptional.
