Chapter 3: The Divine Physician Unravels the Aristocratic Conspiracy
Niu Yichen lifted the teacup, bringing it gently to his nose for a subtle sniff.
A peculiar fragrance, delicate yet sharp, pierced his nostrils.
That scent...
It was datura pollen!
Though the dose was small, it was enough to induce hallucinations and provoke bizarre behavior.
A bold move indeed!
A cold sneer curled in Niu Yichen’s heart.
They wanted him to disgrace himself in front of the Zhan family, to ruin his reputation?
He was no pushover to be trifled with!
Without so much as a flicker of his eyelids, he calmly sipped the tea, as if nothing had occurred.
The tea tasted slightly bitter at first, but left a sweet aftertaste.
Niu Yichen swallowed discreetly, a playful smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Fine tea,” he praised, his tone betraying no hint of suspicion.
This maneuver left the onlookers who were secretly observing him utterly stunned.
Could it be that this young man didn’t detect the poison?
Impossible!
This was top-grade datura pollen from the southern border— even martial arts masters would falter.
Niu Yichen set down the cup and scanned the crowd, finally resting his gaze on the Zhan family’s second uncle, Zhan Tianhua.
Zhan Tianhua sat upright, his face faintly tinged with an almost imperceptible smugness.
“Second Uncle, this tea is quite something. Where did you buy it? I’d like to get some to try myself,” Niu Yichen asked with a bright smile.
Zhan Tianhua’s heart skipped a beat, though he forced a calm reply: “Oh, a friend brought this back from abroad. It’s not available in stores.”
“Is that so? Quite rare then...” Niu Yichen smiled meaningfully. “I’ll be sure to savor it.” He lifted the cup again and took a deliberate sip.
---
“That tea...” He paused, his eyes burning as they fixed on Zhan Tianhua.
“This tea... reminds me of a rare ailment.” Setting down the cup, Niu Yichen gave a half-smile. “Second Uncle, have you lately been feeling... hmm... weak in the waist and knees, frequent nighttime urination, occasionally accompanied by... well... some embarrassing internal pain?”
Zhan Tianhua’s face instantly paled. He had always concealed these symptoms, never confided in anyone—how could this boy possibly know?
He sprang to his feet, pointing angrily at Niu Yichen. “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
Unfazed, Niu Yichen slowly produced a delicate porcelain vial from his pocket. “No need to be alarmed. I happen to have a remedy here that could ease your symptoms.” He poured out a single pill and handed it over. “Try it if you don’t believe me.”
Whispers rippled among the onlookers, speculating on what medicine Niu Yichen might be carrying.
After a moment’s hesitation, Zhan Tianhua accepted the pill and swallowed it in one gulp.
Strangely enough, warmth surged through his body, the aching in his waist eased considerably, and the embarrassing pain diminished greatly.
How could this be possible?
His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Niu Yichen.
“Trifling skills, nothing worth mentioning,” Niu Yichen said with a faint smile before turning to the others. “Anyone else wish to test my medical prowess?” His gaze swept over the crowd, calm but commanding.
Those who had been waiting for Niu Yichen to make a fool of himself now fell silent, afraid to act rashly.
Fuming with humiliation, Zhan Tianhua shouted, “This is sorcery! You’re deliberately framing me!”
Others allied with Zhan Tianhua chimed in, “Exactly! He must have known about Second Uncle’s illness beforehand and is playing tricks!” “Throw him out! The Zhan family won’t tolerate someone like him!”
“Framing?” Niu Yichen sneered coldly. “Do I need to do that?” His eyes sharpened like blades as he scanned the crowd. “I’m sure you all know the taste of datura pollen better than I do.”
Zhan Tianhua and his cohorts paled, stunned that Niu Yichen had seen through their scheme.
“You’re slandering us!” Zhan Tianhua barked, trying to sound fierce but revealing his inner fear.
“Slandering?” A cold smile curved Niu Yichen’s lips. “Then let the facts speak.” He paused before fixing his gaze on a bodyguard beside Zhan Tianhua. “Brother, haven’t you been…”
Before Niu Yichen could finish, the bodyguard’s face changed drastically, clutching his abdomen instinctively.
Niu Yichen smiled faintly. “You’ve been having frequent abdominal pain, and...” He paused deliberately, enunciating each word, “your complexion shows a darkened area between the eyebrows.”
The bodyguard’s legs weakened, and he collapsed to his knees. “Divine doctor! Have mercy! I was forced into it!” He burst into tears and snot, confessing everything—that Zhan Tianhua had ordered him to poison Niu Yichen.
The turnaround was as swift and fierce as a tornado.
The gathered crowd couldn’t help but remark: today’s drama was truly delicious!
Zhan Tianhua’s face drained of color, looking as if he had swallowed a fly.
This was a textbook case of being slapped in the face with his own scheme!
“Second Uncle, anything you wish to say?” Niu Yichen looked at Zhan Tianhua with a teasing smile.
Zhan Tianhua opened his mouth but could say nothing.
This young man was indeed a prodigy of sorts.
Zhan Qingxue stepped forward, her eyes icy as she swept over the crowd. “I will investigate this matter thoroughly. Anyone who dares stir trouble in the Zhan family will not be spared!” Her queenly aura radiated with undeniable dominance.
Those who had supported Zhan Tianhua now cowered, wishing desperately to disappear into the ground.
Zhan Tianhua’s face was ashen as Niu Yichen observed everything with serene indifference.
For him, this farce was merely a child’s game.
He took a deep breath, feeling the surging vitality within.
The path to immortality was long and arduous.
And this was only the beginning...
“Qingxue,” Niu Yichen turned to Zhan Qingxue, his voice calm, “I think it’s time we had a talk.” A meaningful smile curled upon his lips.
