Chapter 10: Making Dinner
Su Yao and Ye Simin took their belongings and left the state-run restaurant, with Yu Lu stuffing her own things away and following closely behind.
“Su Zhīqīng, don’t think you can just walk away like this. You owe me money since the braised pork is gone,” Yu Lu called after her.
Su Yao ignored her and pushed the cart forward.
But Yu Lu refused to let go, clutching onto the back of the cart persistently.
Su Yao took a deep breath, stopped the cart, loosened up her limbs, grabbed Yu Lu by the collar, and threw her into a nearby alley.
Yu Lu stumbled and fell to the ground. Just as she was about to curse, she saw Su Yao crouching down slowly with a cold expression, her gaze sharp enough to kill. The sight made her shiver in fear.
“Su—Su Zhīqīng, killing someone is against the law,” Yu Lu stammered, terrified.
Su Yao’s calloused hand slid across Yu Lu’s neck, cold as a snake slithering over her skin, freezing her blood and rendering her immobile.
Gripping her neck tightly, Su Yao applied gentle pressure. The suffocating sensation made Yu Lu frantically pound on her hand. “Let—let go.”
“Yu Lu, your foolishness is none of my concern. But if you’re foolish enough to do it in front of me, don’t blame me for being ruthless. My temper isn’t good. If it happens again, we’ll see if your neck is tough enough,” Su Yao warned.
With that, she released Yu Lu, wiped her hand on her clothes, and slowly stood up to leave.
Yu Lu lay on the ground drenched in cold sweat, too weak to get up.
Ye Simin, having a package, took the ox cart back, and Su Yao greeted Old Wu before leaving.
Back at home, Su Yao took out the fabric she had just bought. After measuring it against the window, she cut it neatly and used a portable sewing machine from her space to hem the edges. She nailed two hooks on either side of the window and hung the curtain on a string stretched between them.
The remaining fabric was hung in the northeast corner, to be drawn as a curtain while bathing, otherwise folded neatly to save space.
After finishing these tasks, Su Yao began tidying up. She had only wiped the cupboards the day before; nothing else was sorted.
Besides the items she brought and those purchased today, she also extracted plenty of supplies from her space, especially dried goods, as food here was scarce.
Once everything was arranged, Su Yao drew the curtains, locked the door, and entered her space.
To be honest, since acquiring the space, she had never explored it thoroughly. Her sole focus had been to stockpile it, converting all her money into supplies, fearing that she might be transported at any moment.
She had divided the planting area into sections for grains, vegetables, and fruits. The livestock zone housed many chickens, ducks, geese, cattle, sheep, and pigs.
The water areas also supported life, whether from the sea or river, allowing survival here.
As for the small wooden cabin beside the space, she never managed to enter it. Each time she touched the door, she was thrown back as if repelledI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
