Volume One, Chapter 37: Reform Through Labor
"It's good that you've come back. The shop has been doing exceptionally well lately, and the prescriptions have brought in a fair profit. Stay home and rest; there's no need for you to wander the streets and brave the elements," Ye Xu said firmly.
Du Yao, frustrated, kicked the door. Pampered and well-mannered as she was, her effort barely made a sound.
"Have you forgotten how to speak?" Zheng Bana half-closed her eyes, gently tapping his chin with her forehead.
That chilling sensation returned, causing Shi Luowei’s hands to tremble instinctively.
Following Xue Xingran’s gaze, Luo Fu saw the long sword standing upright on the ground. Yet she could not understand—was it not simply a weapon? Why risk one’s life for it?
Luo Cheng was speechless. He had intended to show off a bit, to share his deductions, but never expected that the other person had actually studied those lost ancient characters.
Lin Jia Ruo had no idea how he moved; in the silence, the sash at her waist loosened on its own.
She usually messaged Bai Hui morning, noon, and night, regardless of whether he replied, but now it had been two days since their last contact. Restless, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Staring at the bright moon outside her window, she thought Bai Hui was likely already asleep and did not wish to disturb him.
If she answered Chen Leishen, she knew she wouldn’t get any sleep tonight. She had no intention of becoming the first person in history to die from a kiss.
The monster was enormous; the portion emerging from the spatial rift was already larger than most planets, yet its full form remained concealed.
"Young man, what’s your name?" Emperor Dao Tian patted Ye Chen on the shoulder, as if expressing his approval.
"What a terrifying presence! Clearly, this is no ordinary person," Irene nodded.
Zhang Jiao did not move; his expression remained calm. From the moment the crossbow bolts appeared to the destruction of every support in the council hall, and finally as the entire hall collapsed, he never flinched. He merely raised his head, watching as the roof tumbled down, bricks and tiles raining toward him.
Fang Yi felt a chill in his heart. This news had caused a stir in the Tianyu Starfield, and perhaps it was spread by the Transcendent Master himself. It seemed he truly was attempting to play both sides, to catch the mantis while the finch waits.
"You think Diao Chan is as easy to win over as a roadside morning glory? Not to mention her adoptive father Wang Yun; later, Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu—none of them are people you could contend with," a more experienced player remarked.
Watching the two sides confronting each other, Medinah and her companions were filled with indescribable shock.
"Alright, let’s continue," Qian Duoduo organized her thoughts and spoke.
At that moment, the Wolf Hall’s master, Slayer Wolf, stood at the front of the training arena, calling out names. Each disciple he called received a Cloud-Penetrating Arrow, a simple and inexpensive device meant to signal for help should they encounter danger in the forest.
That leaf of Enlightenment Tea had lost all flavor. Old Zhu took it out and saw the heart-shaped leaf was now dry and yellow, devoid of life. He tossed it casually onto a mountain stone.
Xiang Hao, together with Xiao Chan and Li Wuwei, personally took control of the largest Alchemy Hall in the Great Zhou Divine Dynasty.
Outside the Taiji Hall were rows of horses; eunuchs and guards each led one. The officials shouted their praise, half of them recognizing Yuan Shoucheng. After the ceremony, they all looked at the gentleman in astonishment.
Such a situation baffled Lu Zexi and Bo Xiu. Why, even after the spell was broken for them, did they remain confused? The two exchanged glances, hoping the other had a good explanation.
But who could truly abandon their memories, their freedom, their feelings, and become a cold, emotionless force of Heaven?
Li Mu dipped some water from the vat and rubbed it on his wounded arm. In less than fifteen minutes, only a faint scratch remained.
The monks rushed in, only to see the Beautiful Monkey King tending to the bones of the temple’s monks. None dared disturb him.
The pale blue sky was adorned with a waning moon. The earth lay shrouded in mist, as if wrapped in a silvery veil. Peach trees swayed gently in the wind, their blossoms falling softly, soaking into the puddles below.
Li Mu heard someone say, "Let’s tend to these two first." Looking up, he saw a slightly overweight youth speaking. He quickly replied, "Take my brother first, I must avenge him." With that, he pushed the unconscious man into the youth’s arms and hurried after them.
The Tian family, wealthy and influential, had found a new residence in Q Province; the scenery was beautiful, nestled in mountains beside water, with auspicious feng shui. Yet beneath this beauty lurked a den of wolves and tigers, casting a pall over the place.
Regarding their request, there was nothing he could do. Seeing their strong desire to survive, he feared they might fall into a trap if they went ahead. He said, "Asking us is useless. The best way is to report honestly to the Underworld; then, you might have a chance at rebirth." With that, he put away the divine axe.
With Ye Qiang’s command, "Get down," a deadly hunter plunged elegantly into the bottomless black pit.
Zheng Xiyi glanced at GD. Though he hesitated after speaking, Zheng Xiyi sensed GD’s invitation was sincere, not merely for show. His later wavering likely came from other considerations.
Those were a pair of legs that stirred the soul, impossible to ignore. One longed to embrace them, to caress them gently, and then, with an artist’s eye, admire their flawless lines.
More than twenty years of living as a man had etched countless deep scars onto her soul. Even now, she still observed and judged the world from a male perspective, and continued to think and handle matters with a man’s logic.
