Master Chen remained silent. He sat down in the tavern, took a sip of water, then stood up and cupped his hands respectfully. “What you all say is true—the Li family has won. I ask that none of you speak ill of the Li family in our presence.”
“Ha ha, hic—wha?” The man laughing suddenly stopped, coughing violently as he stared at Master Chen in shock.
He must have misheard.
Silence quickly fell over the great city.
“Master Chen, you must be joking. The Li family? I’ve never even heard of them. How could they possibly have destroyed the Tai Long Sect? You must be fooling us,” said a man with a mustache, his throat tightening as he dared not speak recklessly.
“Is that so? Master Chen, that’s not fair. How dare you deceive us like this? My daughter is part of your sect, you know,” teased someone familiar with Master Chen, smiling. But seeing the solemn expression on Chen’s face, his smile faded.
“No, it can’t be true, can it?” someone stammered, looking toward the Zhou family head. “Master Zhou, say something.”
Master Zhou nodded. “That’s right. The Li family has won. I urge everyone to be cautious in your words and actions.”
At once, the entire city fell into a tense silence, mixed with a burning heat. Many eyes widened in disbelief, hearts trembling.
The Li family had won!
It was simply unbelievable!
“Is this for real? Tavern keeper, bring some wine quickly! Don’t just stand there stunned—bring good wine for Master Chen and Master Zhou,” someone called out, eager for details.
The tavern owner was present too. He ordered the servants to bring wine. Everyone turned their heads attentively.
“The matter of the Li family can’t be spoken of much. All I can say is that the Tai Long Sect is no more—some dead, some ruined!” The head of the Chen family recalled the scene of Tai Long Sect disciples and Su family members falling one by one, his eyes betraying shock.
“The Tai Long Sect is really gone?” an elder murmured. A little girl covered her mouth, looked up at her grandfather, then released her grasp. “So, the Li family really won?”
She felt a flicker of happiness.
“The Li family did win, but the Tai Long Sect brought this upon themselves. Their disciple Ye Bufan provoked the Li family. I think the destruction of the Tai Long Sect is justified,” said the Zhou family head. “The details cannot be disclosed.”
Goodness.
The Tai Long Sect was truly no more?
A tremor ran through their hearts, as if a cat were clawing inside!
The city’s people felt as if waking from a dream. Everything had been fine, then suddenly the sky shifted.
It was like a dream—after all, this was the Tai Long Sect!
Even those who supported the Li family hadn’t expected them to wipe out the Tai Long Sect so swiftly.
The news spread rapidly.
“The Tai Long Sect is really destroyed?! My goodness!”
“What exactly is the Li family’s background? Should we send them gifts?”
“Who knows if things will remain stable.”
Street vendors were stunned beyond belief. The mighty Tai Long Sect they revered was gone just like that?
Those who had underestimated the Li family looked around nervously, packed up quickly, and fled, silently praying the Li family wouldn’t overhear their disparaging remarks.
Inside the tavern.
“The Li family is also in danger,” a bold young disciple said loudly, drinking wine.
This caught others’ attention, and they urged the young man to explain.
“That Ye Bufan is a disciple of the Dawn Moon Sanctuary, under the Dawn Moon Saint Lord. The sanctuary will definitely send people. Moreover, the Tai Long Sect has a connection to Ye Bufan—he has a lover who is the eldest lady of the Mo family!”
“The Dawn Moon Sanctuary and the Mo family’s patriarch will probably arrive soon!”
The disciple’s face flushed as he spoke loudly.
“Nonsense! What nonsense are you babbling about?” The disciple’s sect leader suddenly stood, slapping the young man awake, then clasping hands to all around. “Our disciple was drunk—do not take these words seriously!”
The disciple covered his mouth in terror, eyes wide. “Sect Leader!”
The leader glared at him with bitter disappointment. Damn fool! Matters concerning the Li family were no topic for their idle chatter!
The disciple was terrified—he was finished!
The sect leader rose and took the disciple away swiftly.
Once again, silence fell over the tavern. None could regain their composure.
“The Dawn Moon Sanctuary and the Mo family patriarch... a Saint?”
When a Saint appeared, silence turned absolute.
A Saint, no way!
The Li family was truly doomed!
Even the Li family’s supporters felt this way. The Dawn Moon Sanctuary and the Saint family were formidable.
“Do you think, what if...” someone began but stopped, the thought too absurd.
In the Eastern Wasteland, this was but a great city, and the Tai Long Sect was a major sect.
The Dawn Moon Sanctuary was an untouchable existence.
Before the Saint and the Dawn Moon Sanctuary, the Tai Long Sect was utterly helpless.
At this moment, a chuckle came from a middle-aged stout man. “Stop indulging in wild fantasies.”
...
On a somewhat desolate mountain stood the Mo family’s ancestral retreat.
The Mo family head and his father, both at the Refining Void realm, paced anxiously while waiting outside the patriarch’s meditation chamber.
An elderly white-haired man appeared—Mo Jie, the Mo family patriarch. He was a Saint, beyond the quasi-Saint realm.
He had already surpassed the quasi-Saint boundary.
“I understand why you summoned me. A plea for help from a young member of the family has you all in such a panic? What a disgrace,” Mo Jie said, disappointedly looking at the two men—his son and grandson. What utter wastes.
Mo Jie had met the Great Emperor himself. How had he produced such useless descendants?
“I’ve lived a life of virtue. Once, I even met the Great Emperor. How did I end up with you two useless fellows?” he complained.
Mo family head Mo Leng and former head Mo Xiao exchanged helpless glances.
Their patriarch was fond of repeating this story.
“Grandfather, please hurry! That’s your own great-granddaughter! Enough with your Great Emperor tales—we’ve heard them a hundred times!” Mo Leng urged anxiously. “Mo Yao has a congenital Dao body with a boundless future. Nothing must happen to her!”
Mo Jie sneered. “Anyone who dares harm my Mo family will taste my blade. Summon the Mo family warriors—prepare for battle!”
“I want to see who dares lay a hand on my little princess!”
Mo Leng and Mo Xiao smiled grimly as the Mo family gathered. Many of Mo Jie’s sons were present.
Mo Jie looked on calmly. “Long ago, I learned Dao from the Great Emperor, as you know.”
The Mo family disciples sighed—again the patriarch’s story. They were so familiar with it they felt like hearing it even in their dreams.
“Grandfather, let’s go now. Your stories can wait! After all, a Great Emperor is just that. You’re a Saint too—there’s not much difference!” Mo Leng was impatient, not believing the tale and only wanting to save his daughter.
That was his precious daughter.
Mo Jie snorted coldly. Mo Leng shivered, daring not to speak further. Their patriarch was obsessed with the Great Emperor—one disrespectful word might get him thrown out!
Mo Xiao was speechless. His father’s obsession ran deep. The Mo family even had a portrait of the Great Emperor—ordinary and unremarkable.
However, this Great Emperor, who unexpectedly ascended, seemed to have aided Mo Xiao’s father.
Now, this Great Emperor was the weakest of his kind—a fact universally acknowledged.
Mo Jie shook his head, knowing their thoughts, silently cursing their foolishness.
This Great Emperor was no ordinary figure.
His network was vast, his strength formidable, and he had survived the dark chaos. That was no small feat.
Most importantly, he was Mo Jie’s teacher.
“Anyone who harms my Mo family must be fought!”
Mo Xiao shouted loudly.
The Mo family knew Mo Yao was in trouble and responded in kind.
“Fight!”
Mo Jie waved his hand, and one by one, warships soared into the sky.
Near the Tai Long Sect, the sky darkened instantly. Warships bearing the Mo family banner appeared, causing onlookers’ breaths to catch.
These powerful ships shimmered with green patterns—cold war machines, terrifying and blotting out the sun.
“Mo, Mo family!” someone’s voice trembled. The arrival of the Mo family struck fear.
“As expected of a Saint family—this is their foundation?” a powerful Dao-transforming expert murmured, still shaken.
A living Saint!
The great city fell silent, watching the Mo family’s arrival, feeling utterly insignificant and laughable.
Li family? Tai Long Sect? How could they possibly compare to the Mo family?
This was a family with a Saint!
“We were wrong. All wrong. How could ants measure up to such a behemoth!” someone swallowed nervously.
Everyone realized the Li family was finished.
On a Mo family warship, Mo Leng stared down at the Tai Long Sect below, a sharp smile curling his lips.
“Li family, you dared provoke my Mo family and my eldest lady! You’re courting death!”
Turning, Mo Leng looked at his grandfather sipping tea. “Grandfather, please intervene.”
Mo Jie grunted, sipping tea. The aura of a Saint radiated openly from him.
Instantly, within ten thousand miles, all felt a chill, hairs standing on end.
This was the restrained power of Mo Jie.
Through divine perception, Mo Jie immediately saw his great-granddaughter—and then...
Rippling water waves stirred in the tea bowl. That figure. That presence.
Mo Jie’s eyelids fluttered, eyes widening, wrinkles smoothing as his pupils dilated.
Mo Leng felt his grandfather’s overwhelming might and slowly spoke.
“Li family, you dare touch my—”
His voice thundered through heaven and earth, drawing all eyes.
At that moment, a scraping sound came from behind. Mo Leng instinctively turned and saw his invincible grandfather’s teacup slip from his hand, tea spilling over him.
His grandfather’s eyes glowed red, his body trembling slightly, lips pale as he whispered faintly,
“To have seen the Great Emperor, yet not bow before him...”
