Chapter One Hundred and Two: The Sudden Tsunami
System notification: The giant sea monster, Kraken, has successfully transcended the mortal realm.
Alchemical creature: Giant sea monster, name: Kraken
Innate abilities: Power of the giant monster, Breath concealment, Oceanic dance
Skills: Entwining, Pollution control, Deadly slicing
Basic evaluation: Early Silver tier (trainable, lacking transcendent energy materials)
Additional appraisal: This is a colossal sea monster embodying the terror of the deep ocean.
A string of system prompts appeared, proclaiming the immense strength of this sea beast, whose final size settled at no less than two hundred meters.
Frankly, Kraken’s current power now far surpasses the legendary North Sea giant monster from various tales. In those legends, it had no extraordinary abilities beyond dragging passing ships from the depths and tearing them apart. Its size, according to myth, was merely around one hundred fifty meters in length and three hundred tons in weight.
Wu You’s creation, the giant sea monster Kraken, could annihilate the legendary version easily, whether in strength, size, or special abilities.
Yet Wu You only glanced at the information casually before his attention was drawn once more to the two tsunamis.
Although each wave was less than five meters high, they weren’t just simple surges—they were tides pushed by vast quantities of seawater.
From the point of origin, the scale wasn’t enormous. But given how close this was to the mainland of RB and Korea—each less than a hundred kilometers away—the tsunami would likely not weaken below the warning threshold before crashing into the coastal regions of both countries.
As for ships encountered along the way, their fate would be grim.
“Kraken, try to weaken that tsunami. Ao Guang, we’ll chase the other.”
Ao Guang carried Wu You swiftly through the water, breaking the surface as he pursued the wave heading toward Korea, while the giant sea monster moved rapidly beneath, stirring its tentacles.
It wasn’t that Wu You cared greatly about the safety of the two nations’ people, but the incident was significant; if mishandled, more than a few lives would be lost.
Crucially, fishing boats from China often worked in nearby waters. At the very least, he had to reduce the tsunami’s scale to ensure it would never threaten his own country’s coast.
Two Silver-tier beasts, one in the sky and one underwater, used their abilities to weaken the tsunami.
Unfortunately, the proximity was too close. After both unleashed their powers, within mere minutes the waves approached the territorial waters of Korea and RB, Kraken feeling the narrowing depths beneath.
Reluctantly, Wu You could only issue the command to abandon pursuit.
Fortunately, after following the tsunamis for some distance, he found no large cruise ships or Chinese fishing vessels nearby. Within the territorial waters of the two nations, the chance of encountering Chinese ships was even slimmer.
After the energy of the tsunami had been diminished, by the time it reached the Chinese coast, it would be little more than an ordinary large wave.
With Ao Guang’s keen vision—
He gazed at the distant territorial waters of the “its world belongs to it” nation, where scattered small boats and what seemed to be patrol vessels drifted.
He muttered, “May they fend for themselves,” and then, together with Ao Guang, emerged from the mist and plunged once more into the sea.
---
Since the “Sewol” incident, Korea’s Coast Guard had been nearly disbanded, with its main functions transferred to the Police Agency and National Security Bureau.
Now, a 2,000-ton small ocean surveillance ship belonging to the National Security Bureau was patrolling.
Inside the cabin, a monitor spotted an abnormal arc on the radar screen.
What is that? Definitely not a ship.
“Kim Da-ho, check the direction at five o’clock, ten kilometers out. Can’t make it out on the radar.”
He shouted into the intercom.
On deck, a man in a black police-like uniform heard the message and called his companion to grab binoculars.
He muttered, “Five o’clock?”
That night, the stars over the sea were particularly bright; even without flares, the binoculars could spot large targets ten kilometers away.
What appeared was a white line across the sea’s surface.
Kim Da-ho’s forehead broke out in sweat instantly.
His knowledge of ocean geography was decent, and he’d seen similar scenes on TV more than once.
“Damn! It’s a tsunami! Unknown height—send a message to headquarters immediately!”
The communications officer in the cabin sent an alert to the National Security Bureau at once.
The ship’s crew was immediately notified to prepare for impact, donning life jackets as per evacuation protocols.
Given the speed of the tsunami, they would soon face it head-on.
Only two minutes later, the tsunami arrived before their eyes.
Holding the intercom, the communications officer stared out the window and shouted inside:
“Wave height 3.3 meters, speed 360 kilometers per hour, preparing for impact!”
The words had barely left his mouth—
“Boom…”
An immense volume of seawater slammed into one side of the patrol vessel.
Everything inside the cabin—bottles, jars—fell clattering to the floor as the ship tilted sharply.
Despite being prepared for the impact, many crew members were violently thrown to one side.
In barely ten seconds, the patrol vessel had capsized under the relentless surge of seawater.
Military-grade ships can withstand waves several meters high, but those are mere waves.
The terror of a tsunami lies not in its height, but in the overwhelming, unstoppable force of massive volumes of water.
Within minutes, more than a dozen nearby fishing boats and several private luxury yachts were all overturned.
Tsunami alarms along the coast had long been sounding.
But there was little time for people to react or escape.
Though the National Security Bureau estimated that the tsunami’s volume and force would not inflict catastrophic losses, unease still prevailed.
---
It wasn’t only them in chaos, but also the RB Coastal Observation Center.
RB suffers far more earthquakes and tsunamis than Korea, so even though they were caught off guard, their response was much swifter.
After the initial panic—marked by cries of surprise—emergency orders were issued.
The origins of tsunamis are mainly threefold: earthquakes, submarine landslides, and cosmic bodies.
Usually, earthquakes are the primary cause. When an earthquake occurs on the ocean floor or near the sea, crustal movements deform seabed plates, causing slippage between them, which in turn triggers massive reverse flows of seawater and large-scale movement, forming a tsunami.
Submarine landslides, often caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, send sediments and rocks tumbling, also propelling large volumes of seawater and generating tsunamis.
Tsunamis induced by cosmic phenomena are rare; typically, when a meteorite falls into the ocean, it creates waves, and if the energy is sufficient, it can trigger a tsunami.
Any of these can be detected in advance.
But this tsunami appeared too suddenly, as if out of nowhere.
---
Moving in slow-motion, the tsunami crashed into the nearest coastal cities of both countries. Low-lying buildings close to the shore were destroyed instantly.
The subsequent floodwater poured straight onto the land, wrecking everything in its path.
Coastal streetlamps, small shops, and glass facades suffered devastating damage.
In a stroke of luck, it was nighttime; few people were on the seaside streets, and those present had already received warnings and taken shelter.
By the time the surge reached residential areas, its energy and volume had diminished; so long as no one foolishly ventured outside, the danger was minimal.
Though the destruction appeared grim, casualties should be limited to a small scope.
