Faced with a boss whose strength had skyrocketed, the players could barely cope...

“One more minute! Wei, be careful!” After taking down a Flame Rock Soldier, Chen Ling unleashed Double Strike, knocking away a soldier who was attempting to ambush Liu Wei.

“Thanks! Boss, don’t worry!” Liu Wei replied with certainty.

Hearing Liu Wei’s unwavering tone, Chen Ling refrained from further concern and instead turned to attack the remaining Flame Rock Soldiers.

...

The three of them hadn’t noticed that their former teammate, the “Master Actor” Ding Mo, was still alive. By Chen Ling’s estimation, Ding Mo should have died in the Swift Zombie round...

In truth, Chen Ling had underestimated the cunning of the Master Actor. In the first round, Ding Mo had also exchanged for a rifle and survived, so the brutality of the round hadn’t been an issue. When the Swift Zombies charged, Ding Mo was the first to try and run, but his captain, who had taken him in, forced him to stay and harshly reprimanded him. However, the captain underestimated Ding Mo’s pettiness and ruthlessness. When the players’ formation was thrown into chaos by the Black Baboon’s attack, Ding Mo’s team was the last to retreat, and during the chaos, Ding Mo took the opportunity to push his captain—who was tightly surrounded by his teammates—out of the group. As expected, the zombies descended upon the lone captain.

When questioned by his teammates, Ding Mo explained that the captain had heroically sacrificed himself, giving them a chance to survive! Of course, no one believed Ding Mo’s justification, but lacking evidence, they couldn’t prove anything. In the subsequent battles, only two of Ding Mo’s teammates remained... The reason was clear—they had understood everything.

Ding Mo! It was all Ding Mo’s doing!

Yet, there was nothing they could do to avenge their captain and fallen comrades. “Wait, we can ask Chen Ling for help! If he knows, he’ll definitely help us!” one teammate suggested.

“How do you know he’ll help?!” the other retorted, firing at the Flame Rock Soldiers.

“Well... but we have no other way!” the first replied, unwilling to give up.

“Who says we don’t? As long as we finish this mission, no one will stop us from killing him next time!”

“You’re right! Alright, Zhang Chen, I trust you. I’ll avenge the captain myself!”

“Yes! We’ll live through this together!” The two gripped each other’s hands like brothers, their eyes filled with determination—and even more with bloodlust and fury...

Meanwhile, Ding Mo realized he no longer had the chance to sabotage his remaining teammates, so he turned his sights on the group of old comrades who had blocked his way in the corridor. The thought of another victim falling to his schemes brought a rare, sinister smile to his lips—a devilish grin that inspired fear and dread.

Spotting Liu Wei’s trio fending off the Flame Rock Soldiers, Ding Mo quickly formulated his next plan. There were only about fifteen Flame Rock Soldiers left and roughly twenty players still alive. Ding Mo easily attracted the attention of one of the soldiers and, as it gave chase, sprinted toward Liu Wei, shouting for help at the top of his lungs, causing the players to look at him in surprise. But seeing it was Ding Mo, they quickly lost interest and went back to defending and fleeing. Blazeland, however, would not ignore such a provocation, seeing it as a challenge to his authority. Without hesitation, he hurled two Fireburst Orbs.

Ding Mo wasn’t far from Liu Wei to begin with, and sprinting for his life, he reached him in moments. Sensing something wrong, Chen Ling shouted, “Wei, don’t help him! Run! Run!”

But Ding Mo knew Liu Wei’s character well—he would never stand by and watch someone die, especially not an old teammate. Even if it meant dying himself, he’d try to save them. Such a virtue might look good in a textbook, but here it was a fatal flaw. Clinging to this weakness, Ding Mo desperately called for help. Liu Wei, who had been ready to retreat at Chen Ling’s warning, couldn’t help himself; his kind nature resurfaced.

“Run, Ding Mo!” Liu Wei called out urgently.

“Thank you! Thank you so much! You really are a good person!” Ding Mo sneered inwardly—what a fool, an extraordinary fool!—but his face remained full of gratitude.

You can know a man’s face, but not his heart.

“Really, thank you, Liu Wei!” Ding Mo hid behind Liu Wei, his mouth spilling thanks, but his mind was already plotting the “accident” that would lead to Liu Wei’s death. Chen Ling, you think you’re so great? This time, I’ll make you watch your brother die—don’t think you’ll escape either!

“Ding Mo, hurry!” The Flame Rock Soldiers were gathering, and Blazeland was lobbing Fireburst Orbs. Seeing this, Liu Wei hastily warned him.

“Okay... okay!” Ding Mo answered in feigned panic, running back hurriedly. While everyone’s attention was elsewhere, he kicked a stone behind Liu Wei...

“Brother Liu Wei, hurry!” Ding Mo shouted, feigning concern.

Hearing Ding Mo’s call, Liu Wei shot as he retreated, completely unaware of the trap. Just as he was about to reload and withdraw, his foot caught on something and he fell hard to the ground.

Seeing Liu Wei fall, Chen Ling instantly realized what had happened... Wei, you’re too kind; you shouldn’t have tried to save him! Chen Ling’s heart cried out.

“Liu Wei, get up—” Zhang Long started to shout, but before he could finish, the Fireburst Orb crashed down like a meteor from the heavens, engulfing Liu Wei’s sturdy figure...

“Liu Wei! Liu Wei! You bastard!! We promised to survive together—how could you... sob, sob!” Zhang Long once again burst into tears.

“Zhang Long! Why are you crying? Have you forgotten what Liu Wei once told you!?” The usually taciturn Xing Ye, the quiet one among Chen Ling’s group of four, finally spoke.

“Right? Right! I’m not a child; I’m a real man!” Wiping his tears away, Zhang Long spoke in a trembling voice.

“Brother Liu Wei! How could this... it’s all my fault... sob...” Ding Mo, the true culprit, berated himself by the side, even squeezing out a few tears—though they were not of remorse, but simply from dust in his eyes...

“Yes! You’re the one who killed Liu Wei! I’ll kill you and avenge him! Aaah!” Zhang Long had long hated Ding Mo, and now, with Liu Wei’s death because of him, his fury was unrestrained.

As Zhang Long charged, Ding Mo stood his ground nobly, saying with an air of righteousness, “Kill me, then! I caused Brother Liu Wei’s death!” It all looked quite heroic, but his trembling legs betrayed him...

“Enough! Xiao Long, right now, the most important thing is not to let down Liu Wei’s good intentions!” Chen Ling stepped forward, blocking Zhang Long and shouting with authority.
