“Doctor Xie, when you say ‘recoverable,’ do you mean that our young lady can recover to be like a normal child?” Madam Yang asked with an expression full of excitement.

Xie Qingtang paused for a moment, realizing she might not have been clear. She quickly shook her head and said, “Of course not. Recovering from a congenital disease is a process. When I say ‘recoverable,’ I mean your young lady can improve from being bedridden to being able to walk slowly.”

At this, the little girl’s face showed a glimmer of hope. Although her current condition was stable, whenever she walked a bit too much, she would experience shortness of breath and chest pain.

Therefore, for her, being able to get out of bed and walk slowly after the medication was good news.

“Being able to get out of bed is already good,” Madam Yang said, patting her chest with relief. Xie Qingtang then picked up her medicine case and headed downstairs.

In the living room, Gu Xiujin heard the voices from upstairs. He immediately composed his expression, returning to his usual indifferent demeanor. Dong Weiyi, observing the sudden change, felt a flicker of surprise.

“Mr. Dong, this is the prescription I wrote for Miss Dong. After taking the medicine for a month, combined with acupuncture, her condition can improve significantly. At the very least, she can walk outside like a normal child without severe palpitations,” Xie Qingtang explained calmly.

Dong Weiyi took the prescription from her hand, his face softening into a gentle smile. “I remember Doctor Xie’s Chunshan Hall has its own pharmacy. We can get all the medicine there. I’ll go get the medicine from Doctor Xie right now.”

At first, to avoid suspicion and because he might worry Chunshan Hall was a small pharmacy with ineffective traditional medicine, Xie Qingtang had simply written a prescription, anticipating he might want to fill it elsewhere.

She hadn’t expected Dong Weiyi to insist on getting the medicine from Chunshan Hall directly, so she was about to agree when Gu Xiujin suddenly said, “Chunshan Hall is just a small pharmacy, and its stock is incomplete. You may not be able to get all the ingredients from the prescription there. Mr. Dong, you should get the medicine from a larger pharmacy.”

Upon hearing this, Dong Weiyi was momentarily stunned, and Xie Qingtang froze as well. Gu Xiujin was openly disparaging Chunshan Hall in front of her.

This infuriated Xie Qingtang. Although Chunshan Hall was small, its inventory was quite comprehensive. Just as she was about to defend it, Gu Xiujin grabbed her hand, preventing her from speaking.

Without further ado, Gu Xiujin forcibly dragged Xie Qingtang out of the Dong family mansion. She thought the man must have some issues with his head.

“Gu Xiujin, what are you doing? Did you skip your medicine this morning?” Xie Qingtang frowned and asked.

Unexpectedly, Gu Xiujin turned to her and said, “You’d better keep your distance from the Dong family from now on. It’d be even better if you could have someone else take over this patient. It’s best to cut off all contact with the Dong family.”

His domineering words stunned Xie Qingtang. She retorted, “Gu Xiujin, stop playing the arrogant CEO act. I’m not buying it. Besides, why should I give up treating a patient just because of your word? I’m a doctor. It goes against my principles to see a patient and not treat them.”

Xie Qingtang found Gu Xiujin’s behavior unusually strange today—not only did he demand that she keep her distance from the Dong family, but he also insisted she refuse to treat the little girl from the Dong household.

Though she didn’t understand his motives, Xie Qingtang was determined not to abandon a patient over this matter.

“I’ve already done all I can. Whether you listen or not is none of my concern,” Gu Xiujin sneered, got into his car, and left, leaving Xie Qingtang stranded by the roadside.

Her expression blank, she gritted her teeth and muttered, “What is this man on about? Could he be treating me by the same standards as his fiancée?”

The thought sent a chill down her spine. She felt sorry for any woman who might fall for Gu Xiujin—after all, a man this proud and unpredictable was not easy to handle.

Left on the roadside, Xie Qingtang wasn’t anxious. She caught a cab and returned to Chunshan Hall. To her surprise, as soon as she stepped through the door, she saw Dong Weiyi sitting in the front hall.

“I didn’t expect to get back earlier than Doctor Xie,” Dong Weiyi said with a smile as he stood up. It turned out he had come to pick up the medicine and hadn’t heeded Gu Xiujin’s remarks.

For some reason, whenever Xie Qingtang looked at this refined, gentle man who made her feel like a breeze on a spring day, she couldn’t help but recall Gu Xiujin’s warning to keep away from him. She shook her head to dispel the jumbled thoughts.

“I really am being influenced by Gu Xiujin. No, no,” she thought, clearing her mind and then carefully wrapping the medicine to hand to Dong Weiyi.

After taking the package, Dong Weiyi said, “I’ve already paid the consultation fee to your assistant, but I’d still like to formally thank Doctor Xie for treating my daughter. When would you have time for me to properly express my gratitude?”

Hearing this, Xie Qingtang was momentarily taken aback, then quickly replied, “There’s no need. This is what I should do as a doctor.”

“Treating the sick is what you do as a doctor. Thanking my daughter’s lifesaver is what I do as a father. I hope Doctor Xie won’t refuse me,” Dong Weiyi insisted again.

After some thought, Xie Qingtang relented and nodded in agreement, saying she would be available tomorrow evening. Dong Weiyi didn’t press further; after taking the medicine, he left.

“Not bad! Boss, this is the first time a man has asked you out. You better seize this chance. This man seems quite high-class, and just now he paid a consultation fee of two million!” Zhou Jinfan whispered as he leaned close to Xie Qingtang with a mischievous smile.

Xie Qingtang turned her head and glanced at him. “For a two-million consultation fee, you should just take the money and be done with it.”
