Chapter 107: The Water Spirit Pearl
Lin Yi and Angel followed the little girl for a while until they reached a rather secluded alleyway.
“Yaya, this path doesn’t seem right,” Angel said, glancing around.
The little girl’s eyes flickered nervously as she explained, “Big sister, this is a shortcut.”
Angel gave her a long, penetrating look, then feigned understanding. “Oh, I see.”
“Big sister, hurry up. Once we get through this alley, it won’t be far,” the little girl urged anxiously.
Before Angel could respond, Lin Yi spoke first, “Let’s go.”
He was curious to see what trick the little girl was playing.
The three of them entered the alley, where two burly men were already waiting, casually smoking and muttering lewd remarks.
Yaya trembled as she saw them.
“Godfather, I… I brought someone,” she said timidly.
The two men leaned against the wall and turned around. One, a man with a crew cut, flicked away his cigarette and strode over.
“Well, well, girl, not bad. You even brought such a beautiful lady. Maybe she can be your godmother later,” the crew-cut man sneered lasciviously.
“Godfather, you said it was just about the money,” the little girl protested.
Smack.
The crew-cut man slapped her across the face, spinning her around and knocking her to the ground, her cheek swelling and reddening.
“Just because I gave you some money, you forgot your place? How dare you interfere with me,” he snarled, glaring fiercely.
Yaya immediately curled up, too scared to say another word.
The crew-cut man then grinned at Angel. “Hey, beautiful, how about staying the night with me?”
“Get lost,” Angel replied coldly.
“Oh? So you have a temper,” the man said with a sinister smile, running a hand through his hair.
He completely ignored Lin Yi, who stood nearby.
A scrawny young man like Lin Yi, daring to resist their threats? Ridiculous.
The crew-cut man reached for Angel, but her eyes flashed cold. She lifted her leg, delivering a powerful kick to his groin.
His eyes bulged as he clutched himself, face draining of color.
“Erhu, you okay?” the other man hurried over.
“Datou, grab this little woman,” Erhu groaned in pain.
Datou was a muscular man, clearly well-trained, his six-pack very defined.
He assumed a tackling stance and lunged at Angel.
Yet Angel responded with a swift kick to Datou’s chin, sending him flying.
Thud.
Datou landed beside Erhu, clutching his jaw and groaning in pain.
“Hmm, hit a hard spot,” Erhu thought.
He had initially assumed Angel was just a pretty mixed-race woman, but her fighting skills were surprisingly formidable.
Datou had once been a bodyguard for rich second-generation kids, so he was no pushover.
But to let such a tasty morsel slip away left Erhu feeling bitter.
“Mr. Lin, let’s go,” Angel said, brushing off the two men as if it were no big deal.
“Let’s go,” Lin Yi agreed.
As they prepared to leave, the little girl suddenly blocked Angel’s path.
Angel sneered, “Yaya, what do you want now?”
Though the girl had been coerced, she was still working for the villains, which annoyed Angel.
If it had been anyone else, those two men might have succeeded.
“Big sister, can you give me ten thousand?” the little girl mustered her courage.
Angel’s tone turned sharp. “Why does a little girl like you need so much money?”
“My brother is sick. Both godfathers refuse to pay for his treatment. Big sister, I’ll trade something with you,” the girl said, pulling a blue bead from her grimy pocket.
“A glass marble?” Angel chuckled. Only children would treasure such things.
You could buy several for a single yuan; exchanging it for ten thousand was pure fantasy.
Lin Yi’s eyes lit up slightly—it was a Water Spirit Pearl.
He already had a Fire Spirit Pearl; with this Water Spirit Pearl, he was one step closer to collecting all five elemental pearls.
“Where did you get this pearl?” Lin Yi asked.
“Big brother, I found it in the water,” the girl blinked innocently.
“Alright, we’ll take this pearl. Do you have any wishes?” Lin Yi asked.
“I just want me and my brother to be safe,” the girl looked up at him. “Big brother, will you give me ten thousand?”
“Yes, I’ll not only give you ten thousand, but also cure your brother,” Lin Yi said.
Angel immediately took ten thousand in cash from her bag. “Here you go.”
“Thank you, big brother, big sister,” the girl took the money and carefully tucked it close to her chest.
Lin Yi pocketed the spirit pearl and let the little girl lead the way.
They had only taken a few steps when Erhu suddenly sprang up from the ground, pulling a fruit knife from his pocket and stabbing at Angel’s back.
Angel seemed to have eyes in the back of her head. With a graceful spinning kick, she struck Erhu’s face hard.
Thud.
Erhu slammed sideways into the alley wall, dazed, unable to even groan.
“Hmph,” Angel snorted softly and immediately called the police.
She had almost forgotten about these two, but now they dared to make a move again.
Scoundrels like them deserved to spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
“Big sister, you’re so cool,” the little girl clapped in admiration.
“That’s nothing. The big brother standing before you is the real powerhouse,” Angel said with a light laugh.
The three arrived at a hotel, and the little girl used a key card to open the room.
Lin Yi saw a small boy about six years old lying on the floor, his face flushed red—clearly burning with fever.
“Xiaotong, big sister has brought someone to see you,” the little girl hurried to the boy’s side.
The boy lifted his eyelids weakly, then drifted back to sleep.
The girl glanced at Lin Yi, silently urging him.
Lin Yi approached and placed his hand on the boy’s forehead, sending a thread of true energy into him.
It wasn’t that he was stingy with medicine; these pills were for martial artists and could have adverse effects on the weak.
Soon, the boy recovered, the fever subsiding.
“By the way, where is your home?” Angel asked.
“In Sichuan Province,” the girl replied.
“Alright, I’ll call 110 for you. The police will escort you home later,” Angel said.
“Okay.”
…
The two left the hotel and took a taxi to the outskirts.
They then walked more than twenty minutes along a dirt road before finally reaching the edge of a primeval forest.
As they were about to set off, the roar of an engine sounded behind them.
Lin Yi turned to see an off-road vehicle kicking up clouds of dust as it sped toward them.
With a screech, the vehicle executed a smooth drift, stopping right in front of Lin Yi and Angel amid a swirl of dust.
“Ha, interesting,” a crisp female voice came from inside the car.
Angel’s expression darkened; the woman inside was definitely provoking them.
Lin Yi’s gaze grew intense as he patted Angel’s shoulder. “Don’t get impulsive. There’s a Grandmaster inside.”
Angel’s eyes narrowed in surprise. She hadn’t expected to encounter a Grandmaster here.
With a click, the car door opened, and out stepped a beautiful girl around eighteen or nineteen—the driver herself.
The girl gave Lin Yi an upside-down thumbs-up before moving to the back and opening the rear door.
An elderly woman in her eighties descended, her face deeply wrinkled. She wore a black short-sleeve shirt and leaned on a snake-head cane.
“Grandma, slow down,” the girl said with a smile.
“Don’t worry. This old bone can still hold up. Let’s go; business is urgent,” the grandmother replied with a gentle smile.
“Okay.”
The girl supported the grandmother as they entered the primeval forest.
Passing Lin Yi, the girl sneered, “Hey, this isn’t a place for you. If you don’t want to lose your life, take your little girlfriend and leave now.”
With that, they walked into the forest.
Lin Yi watched her retreating figure, a faint smile playing on his lips. Though young, the girl’s strength was already at the half-step Grandmaster level.
The old woman’s power was at the seventh level Grandmaster—such strength could rival some transcendent factions.
“Mr. Lin, that little girl is too arrogant,” Angel said indignantly.
“Let’s go. She’ll get her comeuppance. This forest is far more complex than it appears,” Lin Yi said, his gaze deep and unfathomable.
