Chapter 87: When the Law Fails to Deliver Justice, Take It Into Your Own Hands (Seeking Monthly Votes at the Start)
Rain had begun to fall from the sky at some unknown hour. The soft patter dripped steadily, the dim streetlights casting a hazy, mottled glow through the raindrops. Occasionally, a car would rush by, its tires splashing water in all directions. Yet Inoue Nami, soaked from the puddles, remained indifferent. Clutching a photo of his daughter with a cold, vacant expression, he trudged step by step toward home.
Daytime in Tokyo during June was still hot, but rain brought a chill—though nothing compared to the coldness that gripped Inoue’s heart.
Inoue Nami was a temporary teacher at Seisei High School. Though his position was provisional, he was diligent and responsible, which earned him the displeasure of some unruly students, among them Kondo To.
But Inoue never imagined that an eighteen-year-old could sink so low, nor did he expect the retaliation to be inflicted upon his own daughter.
What shocked him most was the apathy of the police—those in charge of sex crimes and those handling murder investigations alike turned a blind eye to his plight. Was it simply because Kondo To’s father was a prosecutor?
The rain grew heavier. Inoue instinctively glanced upward, feeling as if the sky itself was suffocating in darkness.
After an unknown length of time, he finally arrived home. He pressed the doorbell but waited in vain for his wife to answer. Fortunately, he had brought a key. Opening the door, the kitchen greeted him with the bubbling sound of soup and the faint aroma of cooking, yet his wife was nowhere to be seen.
“I’m home,” he said softly, placing the photo of his daughter casually on the entryway cabinet. After changing his shoes, he stepped into the living room—and was struck as if hit by a hammer.
His wife, who had lost over ten pounds since their daughter’s tragedy, lay sprawled in a pool of blood. Her head was nearly severed.
“Ah!” Inoue wanted to call her name but found no voice. Stumbling forward, he knelt beside her lifeless body. Blood splattered beneath his knees.
Tears streamed down his face as he sat frozen next to his wife’s corpse, overwhelmed by unbearable grief.
Having just lost his daughter, now his wife was taken in such a brutal fashion. His heart teetered on the edge of collapse.
Instinctively, he yearned to join them in death.
He grabbed a fruit knife from the nearby coffee table, intending to plunge it into his own chest. But just as the blade pressed against his clothes, his hand froze.
“No! I cannot die. Why is it always the innocent who perish, while the vile live on?”
Hatred filled Inoue’s eyes as his gaze slowly shifted to the fruit knife in his hand.
He had nothing left to lose, nothing to hold back. Since this absurd law could not bring him justice, he would take it with his own hands.
Kondo To, the fiend who violated and killed his daughter; Kondo Hane, the prosecutor father who shielded his son; the police from both the sex crime and murder investigation units who colluded in this injustice; and the murderer who took his wife—all of them deserved to die.
“All must die! All of you must die!”
He set down the knife and went upstairs to shower.I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
