Chapter 74: The Haunted Campus, The Sun Doll (12)
“But… even if you take control of the game from me, it won’t do you any good. You can’t leave Rose Elementary.”
Tang Mu herself was the other side of Tang Mu.
She knew exactly what Tang Mu desired.
Tang Mu narrowed her eyes, the air around her growing heavy and oppressive. Her gaze turned sharp and piercing as she fixed it on her other self, every inch of her radiating displeasure and fury.
“I can’t leave Rose Elementary? Then how did you see people outside of Rose Elementary?”
Silence.
Her other self faltered, hesitating to speak. “Actually, before you entered the game, I met him.” Can you believe it?
Tang Mu exploded at these words.
“You met him? You actually met him?” In her jealousy, she was even jealous of herself. “When, where, and what did you two do when you met?”
She grabbed her other self by the throat in anger.
Her double choked and coughed, struggling for breath. “Let go! Let go!… Stop choking me, don’t be rash! Acting on impulse is the devil’s work!”
She was genuinely terrified of Tang Mu.
Compared to her, Tang Mu was an utter madwoman, ruthless even with herself.
“I met him because I was too pretty and got surrounded by thugs at the school gate. He happened to come by… Isn’t that the first time you met him? Is there really a need to be jealous of yourself?”
Tang Mu recalled it as she listened.
Indeed.
The first time she met Yan Xingwen, she had been cornered by a gang of thugs. That was right after Ziyu Shu rejected her, making her the laughingstock of the class—no, the whole school. Her mood was abysmal.
She had gradually transformed from a gentle, soft girl into a wildcat bristling with claws and fangs, lashing out at anyone who came near.
Her temper had only worsened.
Before, she was too timid to speak. After that period, she swore at everyone she met.
When she encountered Yan Xingwen, she was at her most irritable and volatile.
When the thugs surrounded her, she swung an iron rod with one hand, making them yelp in pain.
No matter how fierce she was, she couldn’t take on so many alone, and she ended up battered and bruised. But the thugs fared worse—their noses were almost beaten off.
The initial glint of greed and admiration in their eyes turned to resentment, fear, and curses.
When Yan Xingwen dragged her to the hospital by the collar, she still remembered cursing him:
“A dog meddling in the affairs of mice—mind your own business! If it weren’t for you, your mama here would have beaten them so badly their own fathers wouldn’t recognize them!”
And then…
Then, her head received several solid knocks.
“How can a child so beautiful have such a foul mouth?” Yan Xingwen pinched her cheek. “Once you’ve been bandaged up, I’ll buy you a few different toothpastes so you can rinse that mouth of yours.”
She flushed red with anger and bit down on his arm, refusing to let go.
She left two neat rows of bloody teeth marks. She refused to unclench her jaw.
She thought she’d get hit for sure.
But Yan Xingwen seemed unfazed by the pain. He simply looked at her quietly, his eyes as gentle as water. He was like a jewel among stones, a rare pine among green—strikingly handsome, unmatched in the world.
When he saw her jaw aching, Yan Xingwen patted her head indulgently.
“Rest your jaw if you’re sore. Once you’re ready, you can bite again.”
Tang Mu, rebellious to the core, instantly lost interest in biting his arm—
It was simply too solid.
Her jaw ached from the effort.
When she finally let go, his arm bore a row of bloody holes.
But Tang Mu pretended not to see them, keeping her face cold and ignoring Yan Xingwen’s bustling around, making the doctor stitch her up first.
Looking back now,
It truly was a disastrous first meeting.
“So, what must I do to meet Yan Xingwen a second time?”
Her other self sighed. “Do you remember that this is a game? The world inside is different from reality. Your greatest enemy is me. Unless you resolve all my knots, you can’t do anything.”
Honestly, Tang Mu was strange. Other people’s inner demons fought them to the death, never stopping until both sides were ruined.
But Tang Mu could actually sit here and chat with her own.
“And the timeline of this game is long. You have to clear Rose Elementary to unlock other maps.”
“So, good luck, other me. I’ll be waiting for you in the future.”
Her other self’s figure slowly faded away.
From now on, the control of the game, “Thriller Campus: The Sun Doll,” belonged wholly to Tang Mu!
However, being unable to meet Yan Xingwen left Tang Mu in a foul mood.
And when she was in a bad mood, no one else would have it easy.
As her other self vanished, the game interface slowly displayed several large lines of text:
“Please enter tomorrow’s test questions and elimination rules.”
This was something that hadn’t appeared before.
It seemed her other self had merged fully with Tang Mu, and she had become the true master of the game!
“Note: The test questions and elimination rules can only be set once per day and cannot be changed. The elimination rules must not contain logical contradictions.
The person setting the questions and rules must aim to maximize players’ fear and eliminate as many as possible. At least five players must be eliminated each time. The fear value must not fall below fifty.
Number of days to set questions: 7. One day has passed. If, after seven days, not all players have been eliminated, the person who set the questions and rules will be eliminated.
Warning: Elimination equals death. If all players are not eliminated after seven days, all players may be revived. But if the setter fails to eliminate everyone, the setter dies.”
After reading the prompt, Tang Mu felt that these were nothing short of draconian terms!
Hmph.
Still, things weren’t entirely hopeless.
She still had six chances to set questions.
And the deadline was 23:59 each day. As long as she decided on the questions and elimination rules before then, she’d be fine.
Still, to be safe,
Tang Mu checked the settings from her other self the previous day.
She saw her other self had set:
“1+1= ?”
Death condition: Classmates who are close to Ziyu Shu, Liu Qiongying, Li Meiqi, or Zheng Lu.
Method of death: No restrictions.
Witnesses: The entire class.
Note: After a player dies, they turn into a vengeful spirit and attack the setter. Each attack by a vengeful player reduces the setter’s life by one. If life falls below zero, the setter is eliminated and dies. The setter should choose carefully!
The relationship between hunter and hunted is volatile and delicate.
When life and death are at stake, can you truly be sure of anything?
If fate is always filled with obstacles, then you must learn to accept those hardships!
At this, Tang Mu’s beautiful eyes flashed with absolute dissatisfaction.
She
Would never accept
Fate!
