After killing the enemy, Rist was delighted as well.

“The bio-dryads are ready to move in and clean up the battlefield—”

Before Rist could finish, he sensed that something was wrong.

Another group of undead seemed to have appeared nearby.

There were roughly three hundred of them, and among their ranks were six different undead heroes.

At the same time, Rist realized that this was not all.

He noticed another large force of undead rushing toward them.

Seeing this, Rist quickly took out an object.

It was the brain-bug communicator Chen Gu had assigned to him.

Chen Gu was not yet able to equip every hero with a brain-bug communicator.

But he could still provide one to the heroes commanding the main forces in the several principal cities.

Before sending out the troops, Chen Gu had already obtained several brain-bug communicators.

Apart from himself, Kebas, and Rist, he had also sent one to Allen.

New communicators had likewise been delivered to the Forest Garden, Longwind City, Crow’s Nest City, and Scrollfire Town.

As for Silverpine Valley, there was simply no way to establish contact for the time being. It was too far from Chen Gu, and he currently had no troops available to escort a messenger there.

Communication with that region had therefore been temporarily cut off.

The only ones remaining in Chen Gu’s possession were four or five brain-bug communicators, reserved for newly recruited subordinates.

With these devices, Chen Gu could contact his various subordinates with ease.

Rist now used one to reach him.

As he placed the brain-bug communicator in his palm, static crackled from it.

“What is it?”

“My lord, the enemy has launched an attack. I encountered an undead assault here, and there seem to be a great many of them.”

“How many?”

Receiving Rist’s report, Chen Gu was somewhat surprised.

Rist had merely gone out to inspect the nearby battlefield. How had he suddenly ended up in combat?

Still, Rist would never lie to him. They were not far apart, and Chen Gu would soon know whether the report was true once he brought his troops over.

So Chen Gu immediately asked how many enemies there were and began preparing the Vineglow, intending to lead his forces toward Rist’s position.

At that moment, Rist sent another message.

“I’m not certain yet. But I’ve already killed two heroes, and six more have appeared. I suspect I may have drawn the enemy’s attention, causing them to keep converging on my position.”

Hearing this, Chen Gu froze.

“Where are they coming from?”

“I’m not sure. But it seems they have some kind of item resembling a teleportation gate, because they keep appearing. Another undead force has just arrived, numbering roughly three hundred. This time, eight undead heroes have appeared.”

“Wait there. I’m on my way.”

Chen Gu had no time to worry about anything else. He quickly finished preparing the Vineglow and led his troops toward Rist.

As the Vineglow set off, Chen Gu also contacted Kebas.

“Kebas, have you found the undead city? Rist has come under attack. If you discover an undead city, check along the way to see whether its troops have set out. If they have, find out where they launched their attack from. Determine how many troops remain inside the city. If their numbers are low, attack immediately and take the city.”

Chen Gu estimated the strength of his own forces and Rist’s. Combined, they had enough power to defeat even one or two thousand undead.

More importantly, when the Vineglow reached Rist’s position, it could quickly transform into a temporary camp.

That would allow Chen Gu to draw the undead forces toward him and make them attack the camp, while Rist took advantage of the opportunity to kill undead outside the walls.

With one side attacking and the other defending, they should be able to defeat the enemy with ease.

Even if the battle proved difficult, it would not matter. The more enemies Chen Gu tied down, the fewer Kebas would have to face.

As long as Kebas could capture the undead city, everything would be fine.

After all, their original plan had been to lure the enemies out of the undead city and destroy them in battle.

Only now, Rist had already made contact with the enemy, and the battlefield was not in the location Chen Gu and the others had selected.

By then, Kebas had already found the undead city of Dunbu.

It was quite different from the ninth-level undead city they had seen before.

The city before him, like Shadowmoon Fortress, was only a fifth-level city.

Its total area was not particularly large, but it contained numerous structures of various sizes resembling mausoleums.

These were the residences of the undead heroes.

For that reason, the entire city had the atmosphere of a vast necropolis.

At the very center stood an enormous tomb chamber.

Beside it were the council hall and the barracks.

Between the tomb chamber and the mausoleums grew numerous black, withered trees.

Kebas could tell that these dead trees were the city’s most important defensive force.

The skeleton soldiers, zombies, and ghosts wandering through the city, on the other hand, were merely ordinary troops.

Kebas also noticed that a large number of undead heroes were lining up near the tomb chamber with the forces under their command.

Three to five heroes would gather together, each leading two or three hundred soldiers. It seemed the city had many generals but too few troops.

When their turn came, they would happily lead their forces into the tomb chamber. The doors would then close behind them.

After observing for a while, Kebas discovered that whenever the tomb chamber’s doors opened, the heroes inside the city would enter immediately without waiting for those within to emerge.

Recalling Chen Gu’s message, Kebas could not help forming a certain impression.

To them, a hero’s mausoleum was an excellent place for heroes to seek treasure.

Perhaps the undead heroes saw it the same way.

They could use the hero mausoleums to transport troops directly to the enemy’s side.

That was likely why Rist kept encountering an endless stream of undead forces.

Still, this worked in their favor. With all the city’s heroes being sent away, capturing it would become much easier.

“My lord, the city has been sending heroes out continuously, and there may be quite a lot of them. I can see at least three hundred heroes still waiting there. I’ve decided to launch the attack once only one hundred and fifty remain.”

After hearing Kebas’s report and his plan, Chen Gu replied at once.

“It’s fine. They’re coming out in waves, and the advantage is ours now. There’s no need to hurry. Wait until hardly anyone remains, then strike. You must take the undead city in one decisive assault. Rist and I will handle everything else.”
