Volume One: Hell-Tier Lord World Chapter 140: Upgrade of the Vine Light Completed
Chen Gu had arranged everything, and his vessel, the *Vine-Light*, had reached the location where Lister was fighting. The second wave of undead forces had already been wiped out by Lister. Due to the series of battles, Lister had even leveled up, gaining one point each in Attack and Offense, which further bolstered the combat prowess of his soldiers.
However, the third wave of undead had already appeared. As Lister had warned, this wave numbered over four hundred, and there were eight heroes present—enough to form a cohesive combat squad. Had Chen Gu not arrived, Lister would have had to commit the bulk of his forces to hold the line. Fortunately, Chen Gu arrived just in time, much to Lister’s relief.
As soon as he arrived, Chen Gu brought the *Vine-Light* to a halt. "I have twenty minutes. I’ll send out the Fire Spirit Crows to assist you; just hold off this wave of enemies."
Lister understood immediately. The *Vine-Light* would finish its upgrade in about twenty minutes, after which it would undergo significant changes. Chen Gu’s arrival provided support, and the request to stall for twenty minutes was a signal of his plan. Understanding this, Lister voiced no objection. Once the undead forces emerged, he led his men in a charge.
Meanwhile, Chen Gu found a spot to ground the *Vine-Light*. Even while undergoing its overall upgrade, the vessel remained at Level 1. Upon stopping, it immediately began constructing a temporary camp. The Vine Carriage, serving as the City Hall, was placed at the center, surrounded by the Market, Magic Tower, Tavern, and Blacksmith. The outermost layer consisted of the defensive perimeter, where eight carriages served their respective functions. The two largest were the warehouse and the barracks.
As the temporary camp took shape, the warehouse yielded large quantities of wooden planks to serve as connectors between the vehicles. From the barracks, numerous Blood-Shadow Wolves, Starving Wolves, and Scarecrows leaped out, working swiftly to join the eight peripheral carriages into a makeshift wall. The city guards could now move freely along these walls to engage in battle. This was the first time Chen Gu had utilized city guards in active combat. Although their stats were comparable to legion soldiers, they were even more effective when defending the city.
Still, Chen Gu felt slightly unaccustomed to it. After deploying the guards, he took a moment to adjust their positions. By then, Lister was already locked in combat with the newly arrived undead. As usual, Lister kept the Great Sprites in the front, the Biochemical Forest Spirits behind them, and the Elf Sword Dancers flanking the sides. Only the wild wolves remained stationary, kept in reserve at Lister’s side to fill any gaps in the line. As for the Elf Archers, they benefited from the Offense bonus, but in Lister’s tactical setup, they were relegated to long-range harassment and had been left far behind.
Lister was a violent soul who preferred to be on the front lines. This style significantly boosted his troops' morale, making them fight with greater ferocity. This time was no different; as his forces collided with the undead, Lister personally slew two of them before charging toward a nearby undead hero with his sword raised. The undead hero, a skeleton clad in heavy armor, met him head-on. However, he had barely taken two steps before Lister’s blade struck home.
Lister’s talent applied not only to his soldiers but also to himself. As the battle intensified, the other undead heroes rushed toward him. Regardless of their tactical acuity, these heroes could see that Lister was the commander of the elven forces. They realized the elves were so formidable because of Lister’s buffs; if they killed him, the strength of these powerful troops would plummet, allowing the undead to dictate the flow of the battle. Consequently, all the undead heroes charged at Lister, leaving no one behind to command their own troops.
Lister was delighted by this; he saw it as easy experience points. With a backhand strike, he killed the skeleton hero he was engaged with and rode his Great Antlered Deer toward the rest.
At that moment, Chen Gu suddenly noticed the newly constructed *Vine-Light* camp trembling. Alarmed, he feared an enemy had infiltrated the camp from underground, but a quick inspection proved otherwise.
The upgrade of the *Vine-Light* was in its final ten minutes, evolving from a Level 1 village to a Level 2 village. Chen Gu immediately returned to the Vine Carriage and climbed to the roof to observe the changes. The carriages forming the perimeter remained largely unchanged, but new vines began to sprout from the ground outside the camp. These vines resembled Corpse-Eating Vines but were distinct; they autonomously retrieved wood and stone from the warehouse. Soon, sixteen new carriages emerged from where the vines had spread.
These carriages were similar in size to the original ones, but Chen Gu noted that some were different—they featured wooden bases, vine wheels, and stone-plated outer shells, making them significantly sturdier. The remaining ones were identical to the previous models.
Chen Gu was surprised, wondering if these carriages possessed new properties. As it turned out, four of the original eight peripheral carriages moved outward, while six of the new sixteen moved into the inner circle. The camp’s layout shifted into four distinct rings. The innermost ring remained the Vine Carriage, the seat of the City Hall. The next ring consisted of four carriages housing the most vital city structures. Further out were ten carriages containing the warehouse and various resource production sites. The outermost ring comprised fourteen carriages, housing the barracks and training grounds. Because some carriages remained empty, the layout appeared spacious.
A new defensive wall was rebuilt around the outermost carriages, with boardwalks laid between the inner and outer rings. Just then, a notification echoed:
[The *Vine-Light* upgrade is complete.]
