Chapter 128: A Teacher for a Day, a Father for a Lifetime

Ji Huaili, having only undergone a mere marrow-cleansing, dared not utter a word. He sat on the stool, his skin burning with discomfort, as if sitting on pins and needles.
“May I ask, honored sir, your name? You must be Tianxin’s master, right?” Ji Yuntian spoke cautiously.
“That’s right,” Baizhu replied with a faint smile. “My surname is Bai.”
Ji Yuntian recalled asking Tianxin before, and she had mentioned her master’s name was Baizhu. So this must truly be that esteemed elder.
Ji Yuntian felt both joy and anxiety. “Thank you, Elder Bai, for taking care of Tianxin all these years.”
Ji Huaili immediately stood and bowed respectfully to Baizhu.
A cold glint flickered briefly in Baizhu’s eyes as he glanced at Ji Huaili. “You are Xiner’s father?”
Ji Huaili’s legs weakened instantly. “Yes, I am Tianxin’s father.”
Baizhu sneered coldly. “There’s a saying: once a teacher, always a father. In that sense, I suppose I can also be called Xiner’s father, can’t I?”
Ji Huaili looked up at Baizhu, who appeared very young, no more than twenty-five or so. Yet Ji Huaili knew that those with great cultivation often mastered techniques to preserve their youthful appearance. This man might be several decades older in reality.
He smiled wryly and cupped his hands. “You speak wisely, Elder. It is Tianxin’s fortune to have you as her master.”

Ji Yuntian glanced between Baizhu and Ji Huaili, sensing that this elder did not favor Tianxin’s father.
“Heh… but I, for one, believe it is my fortune to have Tianxin as my disciple,” Baizhu’s lips curled into a cold smile.
Cold sweat broke out on Ji Huaili’s back, his palms clammy. He could feel Baizhu’s displeasure toward him and feared that one wrong word might bring fatal consequences.
The master of the Lesser Fiend God… was none other than the Great Fiend God…
No matter how gallant Ji Huaili had been before, how commanding among soldiers, before this master and disciple, he could only yield from the heart.
Baizhu truly disliked Ji Huaili. Were it not for Xiner being his biological daughter, he would have dealt him a harsh lesson. A man who cannot protect his own woman and daughter is utterly useless!
Every time he recalled that scene at the chaotic burial ground, his heart ached. Had he not passed through that place, who knows what might have befallen Xiner…
Yet, without that incident, he might never have met this little apprentice.
Still, such a worthless man clings to the title of father, which deeply infuriated Baizhu.
His disdainful gaze toward Ji Huaili grew ever sharper.
The title of father is far closer than that of master—hmph.

The Rong Prince’s Mansion.
“Your Highness, do you really believe there’s a ‘female ghost’ in Jin’an City? Floating on the rooftops late at night… The one who saw it said it’s a little girl,” Lin Si said, bored by Sikou Yan’s single-minded focus on making pastries, so he sought to spark a conversation.
Sikou Yan had rolled up his sleeves and worn only his inner garment, meticulously adorning the pastries with decorations.
A bit of white powder still clung to his arms, and though he was a refined figure, at this moment he seemed filled with the everyday warmth of mortal life.
“A little girl?” Sikou Yan frowned. “Go inquire what the Ji family’s Third Miss is doing today.”
Lin Si replied, “Yes, Your Highness.” He thought to himself: The prince is overthinking. Hearing ‘little girl’ and immediately thinking of Miss Ji? There are so many children in Jin’an City…
He wished he could slap himself for speaking out of turn.
