Yet for Ji Tianxin, the demands she placed upon herself were high, but whether faced with warmth or cold, poverty or wealth, she could survive regardless. Sometimes, naturally, she sought the best, but if it was not available, she was unconcerned. Perhaps this had something to do with the detached nature she now possessed.

After an awkward pause, Madam Zhao, under Ji Tianxin’s gaze, seemed to casually change the subject. “Tianxin… you know, aside from the eldest son and second daughter born to Madam Chen, there’s also a younger brother beneath you, don’t you?”

“Hm?” Ji Tianxin did not understand Madam Zhao’s intention. But she sensed that the earlier words were merely a prelude to what was to come.

Madam Zhao smiled apologetically. “The third young master of the General’s Manor—oh, no, now he should be called the fourth young master—Yuanqing, who just turned five this year.”

“Is he your child?” Ji Tianxin asked in return.

Madam Zhao nodded, her expression tinged with sorrow. “Yes, Yuanqing is my child, but… Yuanqing’s mind is troubled. Tianxin, though you are still young, you possess martial skills… I wonder, do you have time to look after your brother, perhaps teach him some basic moves?”

At this, Madam Zhao felt she had been presumptuous, even offensive.

“No, no, that wasn’t my meaning. Tianxin need not concern herself. I only wanted to ask, if you happen to know any experts… could you let them examine Yuanqing? Otherwise, he’s just a foolish child… I…” As she spoke, Madam Zhao could no longer hold back her tears, sobbing quietly.

Ji Tianxin understood. “I see.”

Madam Zhao wiped her tears and looked up in confusion. “You understand?”

“Return for now,” Ji Tianxin said.

Madam Zhao had not yet reacted.

Su Qing, smiling mischievously, began to usher her out. “Madam, please go back. My mistress needs to rest.”

Madam Zhao nodded absentmindedly, her thoughts elsewhere.

“What is his name?” Ji Tianxin suddenly asked.

Madam Zhao instinctively replied, “Ji Yuanqing. His name is Ji Yuanqing, and he’s already five years old.”

Ji Tianxin nodded. “Very well.” Her beautiful, tranquil features betrayed not a hint of emotion.

Madam Zhao sighed quietly to herself, then bowed slightly and took her leave.

“Mistress, I’ve heard the third young master of the General’s Manor, Ji Yuanqing, is a simpleton, born with low intellect. Most of the time, he’s kept in his courtyard and seldom seen. But I didn’t expect Madam Zhao to come to you for her son,” Su Qing remarked.

Ji Tianxin merely watched Madam Zhao’s departing figure, responding with a soft “Mm.”

Ji Yuanqing was also a descendant of Ji Sanlei.

Not long after Madam Zhao had left, Ji Tianxin suddenly remembered something.

A young boy’s face appeared in her mind, her brows gently knitting.

“That Ayen…” She began, then paused slightly.

“What is it, mistress?” Su Qing asked in puzzlement.

Ji Tianxin spoke quietly, “I cannot discern his cultivation.”

Her divine soul was exceptionally powerful, far surpassing her current martial skills. Yet she was lazy, and unless necessary, she would not use her divine soul. Thus, she had not deliberately probed that person’s abilities.

But she knew his cultivation was not low, though she could not see its limits.

She could not tell what level he had reached.

“Eh? Could he be even stronger than you, mistress?” Su Qing exclaimed in surprise.
