Chapter 92: My Lord, Please Do Not Move
At first, it had seemed rather lovely to watch, but once the lead dancer grew visibly distracted, there was little left worth seeing.
She never imagined that the reason for his absent-mindedness was simply that he had seen her.
She rose and left the banquet seat together with Su Qing.
By then, nearly everyone’s attention was fixed on the dancing and music before them, as well as on the people from the Windrider Academy. Moreover, both Ji Tianxin and Su Qing were small in stature, so no one noticed when they slipped away.
But the people from the Windrider Academy, who had been quietly keeping watch over her, knew.
Murong glanced at Yan Xu and the other two. Yan Xu and Ye Ling nodded as well, and silently followed after her, leaving only the one youth who seemed to speak less than the others.
Though the two elders, Du and Li, were aware of it, they said nothing and continued chatting idly with the emperor of the Great Yu Kingdom.
Ji Tianxin’s departure did not escape Ji Huaili’s notice, after all, she had been sitting right beside him. He looked back and lowered his voice. “Yuanruo, go after your sister and keep an eye on her.”
Ji Yuanruo nodded. “Yes.”
He also slipped away from the seat and followed quietly.
Ji Huaili was worried that Ji Tianxin, unfamiliar with the imperial palace, might cause some trouble. Of course, he was not worried about her getting into danger; he was worried about other people.
If anything serious happened, it would become his problem.
Ji Yucheng also wanted to go after her, but just as he rose, Ji Huaili stopped him with a glance.
Ji Yucheng sat back down resentfully, his teeth clenched tight.
Zhao Shi looked at him, let out a cold laugh, and continued sitting with dignified poise. “The Second Young Lady would do well to behave herself. After all, the Second Young Lady is no child. Miss Tianxin is innocent and pure, naturally unlike the Second Young Lady.”
The moment Zhao Shi spoke in the same mocking, double-edged tone, Ji Yucheng’s anger flared even more. He shot her a vicious glare and muttered, “A useless thing that flatters the powerful.”
In the past, no matter what, Zhao Shi had always spoken to her in a low and deferential manner. Yet after being made legitimate, she had changed her face entirely.
And all of it was because of Ji Tianxin.
If she had never come back, Mother would not have died, and the general’s residence would not have become what it was now. That woman would not be trampling over her, and the servants of the general’s residence would not be looking down on her as they did now.
Father would not be treating her like this either.
Why... why had that bastard child, Ji Tianxin, not died out there in the first place?
Ji Yucheng’s eyes reddened slightly. The wound on her face, though much less swollen than before after being struck by Ji Tianxin, still felt as though it burned.
Wronged, furious, overwhelmed by emotion, all of it surged up at once, and her hatred for Ji Tianxin grew even deeper.
After exchanging a few words with the people from the Windrider Academy, Duan Yu subconsciously glanced toward the Ji family’s side. When he saw that little girl was gone, a flicker of uncertainty passed through his eyes.
Where had she gone?
Ji Tianxin’s steps were slow, and Su Qing followed at an unhurried pace beside her.
Since neither of them knew the layout of the imperial palace, they simply wandered about at random.
“Master, I...”
Su Qing’s face looked a little troubled.
Ji Tianxin asked in confusion, “What is it?”
“My stomach feels a little upset. I’d like to go and use the privy...” Su Qing said, somewhat embarrassed.
“Go ahead,” Ji Tianxin said indifferently.
“Then, Master, please don’t move around, and don’t go wandering off. Su Qing will be back shortly,” Su Qing hurriedly instructed.
She knew her master never remembered the way, and was too lazy to fly, so she was afraid that if she returned and her master had wandered off, she would not be able to find her.
Ji Tianxin gave a slight nod. “Mm.”
