Chapter 95: What Is Their Relationship?
Both sides of the call fell silent. Sang Yijia quietly waited for Mo Yani’s response, while Mo Yani wondered if there was still a chance to persuade her.
“Mo, I need time to rest,” Sang Yijia stated clearly. “For the next half year, I won’t be taking on any work.”
After a few minutes of silence, Mo Yani sighed deeply. “Alright.”
Sang Yijia had entered the entertainment industry for fun, not out of a genuine desire to work, and Mo Yani had understood this from the beginning. Yet, as Sang Yijia’s popularity among the public gradually improved, Mo Yani felt she could go further down this path.
“Since you don’t want to, I’ll cancel all your scheduled engagements.”
“Okay.” Sang Yijia figured half a year would be enough; she could write a short drama and then see if she could sell it.
As for how to sell it, Sang Yijia used to have channels, but now those were gone.
Everything would start anew.
After hanging up, Sang Yijia reflected that this road was not nearly as easy as it seemed. Compared to being a celebrity or an actress, she actually felt more relaxed.
Jian Hong quickly learned about Sang Yijia’s refusal to take the film role. She wasn’t surprised at all by this decision and didn’t want to tell Lan Qing, planning to keep it quiet.
The production team would announce it sooner or later anyway.
Elsewhere, Bian He felt it was a pity when he heard the news. “If both of them were in the film, it would have been really interesting.”
“Forget it, I won’t be involved in this movie either.”
His agent was bewildered. “What are you talking about?”
“What’s the point without Sang Yijia? I only wanted to join in for the drama, to watch from the sidelines. Now that the spectacle is gone, what’s left for me?”
“I’m thinking of buying a couple of scripts to invest in web dramas, and then inviting Little Sisi to be the lead singer.”
“Maybe I can even get Sang Yijia as the female lead, and I’ll play the male lead. Wouldn’t that be great?”
The agent laughed at his daydreams. “Bian He, I suggest you eat some celery and keep dreaming while the sun’s up.”
Without waiting for Bian He to retort, the agent hung up.
Hearing the busy tone, Bian He was not surprised at all as he exited the call interface. “How boring.”
“Who knows, maybe I’ll succeed?” he said, turning to look for Yan Ningsi, only to find she had gone over to Sang Yijia, and Lu Wenchuan’s expression had turned sour.
Clicking his tongue, Bian He thought to himself, Maybe I should play the savior.
Otherwise, Lu Wenchuan might not manage to win over Sang Yijia by the end of the program.
“Little Sisi~” Bian He sashayed over, wrist bent in a delicate pose.
Yan Ningsi shivered and hastily hid behind Sang Yijia. “What do you want?”
“Come on, let’s talk about a collaboration. How about it?”
Yan Ningsi had been duped last time and wasn’t about to agree again. “I’m not going to work with you.”
“Give up on that idea!”
Sang Yijia: “…”
“Jiajia,” Lu Wenchuan approached and reached out his hand. “Would you like to take a walk with me over there?”
“Alright.” Sang Yijia wasn’t keen to get involved in the drama between the other two. She glanced at Yan Ningsi. “You two can talk.”
“I’m going with Lu Wenchuan to the garden.”
Yan Ningsi wanted to refuse, but when she looked up and met Lu Wenchuan’s cold gaze, all her words got stuck.
“Fine.”
“Let’s discuss our collaboration,” Bian He said flamboyantly, draping an arm over Yan Ningsi’s shoulder and whispering in her ear, “Why play the third wheel?”
“Didn’t you notice your Brother Lu is upset?”
Yan Ningsi scoffed and turned away. “Jiajia isn’t interested in him like that.”
“Not now doesn’t mean never,” Bian He replied, striking another delicate pose. Yan Ningsi couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Stop with the theatrics, it’s uncomfortable to watch. Can’t you act normal?”
“Sure, if you give me a kiss.”
“Get lost!”
…
Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan walked off into the distance, but she could still hear their conversation.
“It was my agent who called just now,” Sang Yijia said, unable to find a better topic and resorting to recounting what had just happened.
Lu Wenchuan clearly hadn’t expected Sang Yijia to bring it up herself. “Is there anything I can help with?”
“No, it was about the previous suspect-catching incident. The police sent a banner and asked me to respond on Weibo,” Sang Yijia shrugged, a bit helpless.
“Do you have any plans after this program ends?” Lu Wenchuan had thought about it for a long time, wanting to ask Sang Yijia out but unable to find a suitable excuse.
“Yes, I plan to rest for half a year,” Sang Yijia said honestly. “Then I’ll see how things go.”
“Mhm,” Lu Wenchuan nodded. “Do you remember the Qingshan Hawthorn incident?”
“That content creator is my friend’s younger sister. She said she’s always wanted to meet you.” Lu Wenchuan still lacked the courage to ask Sang Yijia out directly, so he changed the reason at the last moment.
“She said she’s sorry about last time.”
Sang Yijia shook her head. “No, I was partly at fault too.”
“When does she want to meet?” Sang Yijia shifted the topic. “I’m free whenever.”
“Next Saturday. She’s still in school,” Lu Wenchuan lied without blinking, planning to tell Qi Yue she didn’t have time when the day came.
Sang Yijia agreed with a nod.
—
At that moment, Qi Yue, watching the livestream, chuckled and immediately grabbed her phone to call Qi Bin. “Brother, when Brother Lu finishes recording, he has to treat us!”
“It must be a feast!”
“If it’s not at least nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine yuan, I won’t accept!”
Qi Bin: “???”
What was his sister up to?
Without thinking, Qi Bin hung up right away.
Qi Yue: “???”
Are you really my brother?
I’ve been used by your friend, and getting a meal out of it is this hard?
Qi Bin’s call ended, but Wei Heng’s call came through.
“Why does Lu Wenchuan have to treat you to dinner?” Wei Heng was in Qi Bin’s office; he’d heard Qi Yue’s voice and saw Qi Bin hang up, so he called back.
Qi Yue pouted. “Didn’t you watch the livestream?”
“Brother Lu used my name in the livestream to invite Sang Yijia out for a meal!” Qi Yue remembered how Wei Heng had previously told her about Lu Wenchuan and Sang Yijia, and she still hadn’t quite forgiven him.
“Hmph, don’t think just because I answered your call this time that everything’s fine.”
Qi Yue grumbled for a bit and then hung up.
Wei Heng rubbed his aching forehead and called his secretary. “Are the gifts I asked you to prepare ready?”
“All set.”
“Bring them over tonight,” Wei Heng said, then changed his mind, “Leave them in the car. I’ll deliver them myself.”
“Understood.” Secretary Gao had no objections, but reminded him, “Miss Qi has a class tonight.”
“She won’t be done until ten.”
There was nothing more to say—just enjoy the weekend, and may everyone have a good time.
