“Hey, Lu Wenchuan, you really are exceptional,” Sang Zheng said, looking at him and having to admit it was true. “But my Jiajia really is not right for you.”

Lu Wenchuan listened in silence. He neither argued nor answered.

“Your family situation is far too complicated,” Sang Zheng said, laying it all out plainly. He patted Lu Wenchuan on the shoulder. “Go back tonight and think it over carefully. In truth, you deserve someone more suited to you.”

Someone better than his daughter? In Sang Zheng’s eyes, his own daughter was the best in the world, beyond comparison. So all he could say was that Lu Wenchuan would find someone more suitable for himself.

“Uncle, I understand,” Lu Wenchuan said, “but I won’t give up.”

Sang Zheng: “...”

So all that talk had been for nothing. A waste of breath, a waste of time.

“I do not want to talk to you anymore,” Sang Zheng said with a soft snort. With his hands clasped behind his back, he strolled slowly toward the hospital entrance. But after only a few steps, his pace could not help but quicken.

Lu Wenchuan looked back once.

It was the father hurrying to see his daughter.

In the ward, Sang Yijia watched Sang Qiwu finish off half a fruit basket by himself. Judging by the way he looked, he still did not seem full.

“Second Brother, did you not have dinner?” Sang Yijia had no choice but to ask the question that was practically begging to be asked.

Sang Qiwu gave a hum. “No. You still had not woken up—how could any of us have had the heart to eat?”

“No idea how much Mom and Dad will bring in later,” Sang Qiwen said. Since he had a little time, he peeled an apple, cut it into pieces, found some toothpicks, and only then handed it to Sang Yijia. “Eat a little. It will not hurt.”

“Thank you, Big Brother.”

Sang Yijia really was hungry. Her stomach had been rumbling so often she could not even count the times.

She bit into an apple slice. Fragrant, sweet, and crisp. She felt satisfied at once.

Knock, knock, knock.

A sudden knock sounded at the door.

Mother Sang came in carrying several insulated food containers. “You are all here?”

Then she noticed that Sang Qibo was not present. “Second, go get Third.”

“You have all been busy all day and still have not eaten dinner.” She set the containers down. “This is the chicken breast and shredded pork congee your father and I made, and we also bought steamed buns from the hotel.”

“Try some of everything.”

Mother Sang opened the thermoses one by one, and the fragrance immediately spread through the room.

Sang Yijia became even hungrier. Her stomach rumbled like thunder.

“Haha, come and have a taste,” Mother Sang said, as though she had not heard her daughter’s stomach at all. She scooped out a bowl of porridge and handed it over. “Boss, you have some too.”

“Thank you, Mom,” Sang Yijia and Sang Qiwen said at the same time.

Mother Sang narrowed her eyes when she looked over. The heavy stone in her heart finally dropped, and she too could relax. “Your father will come up in a bit.”

“He just got to the entrance when he received a phone call.”

No sooner had Mother Sang finished speaking than Sang Yijia’s phone rang as well.

“It is my agent,” Sang Yijia said. She had sent the other party a message on chat earlier, and apparently the agent had been busy the whole time and had not seen it.

Now that things were finally settled, Mo Yani should be calling.

Sang Yijia set down the porridge. “Mom, I will eat later. It is a little hot.”

“Go on, go on.” Mother Sang did not stop her. She caught sight of her eldest son looking like he wanted to stop her and silenced him with a glance. “Do you not know what your little sister is like?”

“If she wants to work, then let her work. If she can work, it means her body is fine.” That was enough to put Mother Sang at ease.

Sang Qiwen’s lips moved, but in the end he said nothing.

Sang Qiwu returned with Sang Qibo.

“Mom, can I take one of the thermoses with me?” Sang Qibo still had a great many things to do. He needed to eat, check case files, and think of solutions all at the same time.

Mother Sang handed him a thermos. “I knew you would say that. This one is all yours.”

“Thank you, Mom.”

Sang Qibo took the thermos and was out the door in one motion, not lingering for even a second.

Sang Qiwu lifted a bowl of porridge, blew on it, and took a slurp. “There are still quite a few people in Third’s office.”

“They are swamped.”

On the other side, Sang Yijia answered the call. “I am here.”

“Jiajia, you are awake? That is wonderful.” Mo Yani let out a breath of relief. “I was shooting an advertisement with the team just now, and my phone was on silent.”

“Mm.” Sang Yijia responded. “How is the program?”

“It has stopped filming for now.” Mo Yani thought for a moment, then took out another phone to check the messages. “Blue Qing’s matter has had a bigger impact than expected. We do not know yet whether the recording can continue.”

That was just how the industry was. The moment a newcomer ran into negative publicity, contract termination rumors would appear at once. Mo Yani had long since grown used to it.

“How are you feeling now?”

“Your eldest brother said earlier that he wanted to terminate the contract with the production team. Jiajia, how are you thinking about it?” Mo Yani knew Sang Yijia still planned to leave the entertainment industry. Whether she took part in this dating variety show or not would not make much difference to her.

“Let us finish filming first,” Sang Yijia replied.

Mo Yani was still checking the other phone when a fresh Weibo alert suddenly popped up. Shen Jin’s name flashed by, and Mo Yani paused before tapping straight into it.

“Jiajia, Shen Jin is trending.”

“Hm?” Sang Yijia frowned in confusion. “What happened?”

Mo Yani drew in a sharp breath as she looked at the trending topic. She had never imagined Shen Jin could be that kind of person.

“Jiajia, Shen Jin spent the night with three women.”

“???” Sang Yijia’s first thought was of a game, and only after that did she understand what Mo Yani meant. Her mouth twitched. “What on earth is going on?”

The male lead was this wild?

What was this supposed to be?

Sang Yijia’s head ached faintly. Why had she signed on for this drama that was originally meant to be adapted for television? Could the company even make money in the future?

She truly regretted her choice from back then. Taking a deep breath, she said, “Forget it. It has little to do with me.”

Mo Yani paused. “That is true.”

“Blue Qing and Shen Jin both have problems now. I am afraid this show is done for.” Thinking of Sang Yijia’s collapse, Mo Yani added, “You should rest well these next two days.”

“If anything happens, I will let you know.”

“Okay.”

Sang Yijia hung up, then looked at the Weibo icon on her phone’s home screen. After a moment of thought, she still tapped in to take a look.

The top trending item had surged up suddenly.

Shen Jin spent the night with three women.

This headline was really...

Sang Yijia did not even know where to begin complaining. When she tapped it open, the pictures were genuinely hard to imagine. The blurring was so bad it might as well not have been there at all.

She then looked at the profiles of the few women who had been tagged. Their pages were filled with all sorts of photographs—images so suggestive they invited endless speculation.

As a woman herself, Sang Yijia could not help but look twice.

“These legs, this chest—they really are beautiful.”

Sang Sang: Beauty. Such beauty! Save them, save them.

Lu Lu: Not as pretty as you. Delete them.
