Chapter 161: Confidence Is a Good Thing
In the afternoon, although Bian He was injured, he was still able to go to the beach to continue participating in the recording, provided that he sat out of all physical activities.
As his partner, Yan Ningxi naturally stayed by his side to take care of him.
Thus, Yan Ningxi and Bian He set up a parasol on the beach, lounged in deck chairs, and watched Sang Yijia and the others perform their tasks.
"This kind of life is simply wonderful." Wearing sunglasses and holding an iced drink in one hand while slightly lowering her shades with the other, Yan Ningxi looked at the three couples by the shoreline before turning to look at Bian He, who was similarly enjoying the leisurely life. "It's a good thing you got hurt."
Bian He's mouth twitched. "There's really no need to go that far."
The production crew was still rolling. It was already scandalous enough that the two of them were just sitting here eating and drinking; adding insult to injury was out of the question.
"What's the task for dinner later?" Bian He lazily leaned back and pulled his sunglasses back up.
Yan Ningxi thought for a moment. "It seems to be a bonfire party."
"We'll be having a beachside barbecue. I've never tried that before." There was a hint of anticipation in Yan Ningxi's voice. "We might even have a concert."
"You can just sit and sing when the time comes," Yan Ningxi said, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I can accompany you."
"..." Bian He didn't answer, refusing to cooperate.
Yan Ningxi didn't mind, smiling brightly as she cradled her drink and looked over at the action across the beach.
The afternoon task was simple, yet slightly childish.
"Build a sandcastle on the beach?" Shen Jing frowned deeply. "Are you sure this isn't a game for little kids?"
Director Chen coughed. He had originally thought this activity was something Bian He could participate in as well, but since Yan Ningxi and Bian He had chosen to sit it out and watch from the sidelines, it was too late to change it now that the rules were set.
Besides, what was wrong with playing in the sand?
Director Chen coughed guiltily. "Actually, this castle is more than just a simple castle."
"This is your love nest."
Sang Yijia: "?????"
"A fairy tale?" Lu Wenchuan twitched the corner of his mouth, staring at the sand in deep contemplation, seemingly seriously considering how to build a castle that would satisfy Sang Yijia.
Lan Qing felt a chill run through her entire body upon hearing such a description and had zero desire to participate. "Director, what should I do if I don't know how?"
Lan Qing simply gave up. "If we can't make it, what's the penalty?"
"The penalty?" Director Chen answered with a beaming smile. "It's very simple. You'll be in charge of everyone's dinner."
"We're having a beach barbecue tonight, so the guests who fail to complete the task will have to go to the back kitchen and prepare the ingredients needed for everyone's barbecue." Director Chen smiled and continued, "This is also a great channel to foster affection between the two of you."
As he spoke, Director Chen glanced at Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan.
"Then I suppose I'd better play with the sand." Shen Jing had never set foot in a kitchen in all his life and had no earthly idea how to help out.
The mere thought that it would be his turn to make breakfast tomorrow made him consider buying a few loaves of bread tonight before heading back, just to muddle through it somehow.
"If we're building a castle, are there any auxiliary tools?" Xu Wei looked around and couldn't see any beach buckets or shovels anywhere, a bad premonition welling up in her heart. "Surely you don't expect us to use our bare hands?"
Director Chen was extremely satisfied with Xu Wei's cooperation and gave her a thumbs-up. "That's right! You are going to use your very own hands to forge a castle of love!"
"..." Sang Yijia no longer knew where to begin complaining.
Upon hearing this, Lu Wenchuan didn't find it problematic at all. "Can we borrow from others?"
"Of course, within the boundaries of this beach, you can use any method you like." Director Chen wasn't cruel enough to leave them completely without a backup plan, though there were certainly no other tourists on this stretch of beach!
Lu Wenchuan understood and turned around to make a phone call.
Sang Yijia: "???"
Everyone else was bewildered as to why Lu Wenchuan was making a phone call.
Shen Jin smiled. "There's nobody around here right now. Does he expect to just summon a few people over?"
"How do you know he can't pull it off?" Lan Qing let out a dry chuckle. Although Lu Wenchuan was merely a programmer, back at the hot spring hotel, he had been able to bring in a medical team directly, and he was even friends with the orchard owner.
No matter how poorly he was doing, his annual income was still well over a million.
Finding a few people here wasn't a simple matter?
Lan Qing looked back at Sang Yijia, narrowed her eyes, and then looked away, refusing to gaze at her any longer. For some reason, whenever she saw Sang Yijia now, it would evoke those scenes from her dreams.
Lan Qing knew those dreams weren't real, but she still couldn't help wondering: if everything had developed according to the dream, she would already be a nationwide superstar by now. She wouldn't have to keep company with Huang Hong, nor would she have to worry about her being kept by a benefactor being exposed.
Lan Qing tightly clenched her palms.
"Are you calling people over?" Sang Yijia asked softly as she saw Lu Wenchuan return.
Lu Wenchuan didn't deny it. "Mhm. How could the castle prepared for you be sloppy?"
"There's really no need for that," Sang Yijia replied. "It's just a sandcastle."
A gust of wind, a surging wave, and it would be gone in an instant.
"What kind of castle do you want?" Lu Wenchuan asked very earnestly. "If we build it now, it shouldn't take more than a few years."
"..." Sang Yijia was torn between laughter and tears. "I don't need a castle."
"With such a large space for just the two of us to live in, wouldn't you find it terrifying?" Sang Yijia quickly put a stop to Lu Wenchuan's train of thought. "The apartment we usually live in is just about right."
"Then let's buy the entire floor." Lu Wenchuan figured SangYijia definitely needed plenty of walk-in closets; if one floor wasn't enough, they could buy the floors above and below as well.
Sang Yijia had no idea what was going through Lu Wenchuan's mind right now. If she had known, she definitely would have stopped him. She truly didn't need that many houses, nor did she need that many walk-in closets.
"Alright, once the people get here, we'll build the castle." Sang Yijia figured there would still be time left after finishing the castle. "I also want to make a few little farm courtyards."
"I wonder if there are any shops nearby selling miniature rockeries and artificial trees." Sang Yijia looked at the shops along the beach; most of them were swimwear shops, food stalls, and beach toy shops, but she hadn't seen any small trees or mountains.
"Maybe we can pluck a couple of weeds later?" Sang Yijia looked around; there were some seaweeds that had been washed up onto the shore.
Hearing this, Lu Wenchuan replied, "Everything can be arranged."
The production crew kept rolling the cameras, and everyone listened to Lu Wenchuan's grand ambitions.
At the scene, only Lan Qing, Shen Jin, and Xu Wei were unaware of Lu Wenchuan's true identity, while Shen Jing was naturally well aware. "Spilling a thousand pieces of gold just to win a beauty's smile."
Shen Jing bent down, grabbed a handful of sand, and squeezed it. "This is no fun at all."
"He's just putting on an act anyway." Now that Shen Jin knew Shen Jing was the genuine young master of the Shen family, he had never once suspected that Lu Wenchuan was anyone of consequence. In his mind, since he ranked right after Shen Jing, he was simply the second person in the cast who must not be offended.
