Chapter One Hundred Twenty-One: Why Put the Pressure on Me?
Has the movie been confirmed?
Lan Qing’s expression finally softened; after days without good news, this was a relief. “So, Sister Hong, when are we going to sign the contract?”
“In the afternoon,” Jian Hong finally exhaled in relief. “This is all Mr. Huang’s decision. Spend some time with him these days—don’t upset him.”
Lan Qing’s face darkened again. “Sister Hong, doesn’t last night count?”
“Heh, do you think he invested millions just to spend one night with you?” Jian Hong retorted bluntly.
Lan Qing was left speechless.
“Now that you’re tied to Mr. Huang, there will be many benefits in the future,” Jian Hong said earnestly. “Being connected to one person is better than being tied to dozens.”
“I’ll take care of what happened last night for you shortly. Don’t worry, there won’t be any problems,” Jian Hong said, then abruptly hung up.
Lan Qing clenched her phone in silence, holding back her anger until she didn’t throw it aside in frustration.
“Qingqing, that’s just how this industry works,” her assistant consoled her. “Without a financial backer, look at Sang Yijia—do you remember how she used to live?”
At the thought of Sang Yijia’s past, a sharp shiver ran through Lan Qing’s heart. Without Huang Hong, she would never have landed the lead role in the film. And because of last night’s incident, she might even have been forced out of the industry, leaving her burdened with tens of millions in compensation she might never repay.
Suddenly, Lan Qing’s heart trembled, and she fell silent.
—
Yan Ningsi and Bian He met Sang Qibo outside the hospital room. The three exchanged glances.
Sang Qibo didn’t recognize Yan Ningsi, showed no expression, and simply passed by them.
“That guy was so handsome,” Yan Ningsi said, standing still and watching Sang Qibo’s retreating figure, shaking her head in admiration.
Bian He snorted. “He was wearing a mask. Did you even see his face?”
Seeing nothing and calling him handsome—Bian He thought Yan Ningsi’s tastes were questionable.
“You’re silly. You can tell if someone’s handsome just by their eyes and eyebrows, even with a mask,” Yan Ningsi huffed, then knocked and pushed open the door.
Lan Qingshu’s room was empty. Yan Ningsi glanced around. “Qingshu, your room really is a bit lacking compared to Jia Jia’s.”
“Lacking?” Lan Qingshu rolled her eyes. “Mine is super VIP, and it’s in the neurology ward.”
“You sound pretty proud of that,” Yan Ningsi said, taking a seat and pointing to Bian He, who followed behind. “This is Bian He, a friend from the industry.”
“You probably know him.”
—
Bian He never expected Yan Ningsi’s friend to be the eldest daughter of the Lan family. Doubt about Yan Ningsi’s identity immediately crept into his mind.
“How do you two know each other?” he couldn’t help but ask.
Lan Qingshu giggled and countered, “Guess.”
Everyone in this circle knew Yan Ningsi had entered the entertainment industry. After all, anyone with a phone could find information about her online.
Bian He fell silent.
“What’s there to guess? We were high school classmates,” Yan Ningsi answered, then turned to Lan Qingshu. “How’s it going now?”
“Nothing serious, just a bump on the head. I had a minor surgery and it’s fine,” Lan Qingshu said lightly. As a nurse, she considered anything non-life-threatening a small matter.
Yan Ningsi paused, uncertain of what to say.
“Where are your uncle and aunt?” she changed the subject.
Lan Qingshu shrugged. “Of course, they went to see that person.”
“Causing trouble here and injuring me—if my parents didn’t know, that’d be a minor issue,” Lan Qingshu replied. “But now that my parents are here, it won’t be so simple.”
Yan Ningsi sighed; indeed, it wouldn’t be.
Bian He followed quietly, unable to join the conversation.
Soon, Sang Qibo returned carrying two books. Seeing Yan Ningsi and Bian He, he glanced at them briefly but said nothing, placing the books on the table before looking at Lan Qingshu. “These are the books you asked for.”
“???” Lan Qingshu frowned at the two medical journals and fell into thought. “Didn’t I say I wanted snacks?”
“Chips? Spicy strips?” She took advantage of being the patient and being somewhat inconvenienced by Sang Qibo to order him around without any politeness.
Sang Qibo gave a faint look. “Those are junk food. You’re a patient; they’re not suitable.”
“If you want to eat them, you can buy as much as you want after you’re discharged.” Without another word, Sang Qibo turned and left.
Yan Ningsi clicked her tongue. “He’s so arrogant.”
“Right?” Lan Qingshu chuckled. “I think so too.”
“But people like that are just so cool.”
Yan Ningsi immediately knew what her best friend was thinking. “I thought you wanted to find a man who’d rely on you financially?”
Bian He was baffled.
“He clearly isn’t the type to sponge off anyone,” Yan Ningsi said, knowing her friend’s standards well.
Lan Qingshu scoffed. “That was when I was young and naive. Now that I’m mature, that’s definitely not an option.”
“Besides, don’t you think doctors and nurses are a perfect match?”
Yan Ningsi was speechless.
“But doesn’t that kind of work mean they spend little time together?” Bian He posed a thoughtful question.
Lan Qingshu responded with a glance. “You really think I can be a nurse forever?”
“???” Bian He felt slightly disrespected but had no proof.
“She’s going back to inherit the family business. Nursing is just a temporary gig,” Yan Ningsi generously explained.
Bian He fell silent again—he didn’t understand the world of the wealthy.
“But won’t you be even busier once you become CEO?” Yan Ningsi was puzzled.
Lan Qingshu didn’t care. “So what? I’ll just get my parents to try harder and have me a little brother or sister.”
Yan Ningsi was speechless.
Bian He’s understanding of the world was completely upended. Silently, he gave Lan Qingshu a thumbs-up.
—
After checking the ward, Sang Qibo finally had time to look at his phone. His sister and family had already left.
Reading the messages from Sang Yijia, Sang Qibo rubbed his temples, then opened the drawer of his temporary desk. Suddenly, he spotted a surprise Sang Yijia had prepared, and his expression softened warmly.
[Third Brother, Mom says you often skip meals, which isn’t good.]
[So, I prepared some chocolate for you. It’s small and fits in your pocket. Remember to carry it with you.]

Lan Qingshu thought to herself, inheritor, huh? Why not just ask my parents to have a child?
