Shen Jin, who had always been overlooked, suddenly remembered something his agent had once mentioned as he glanced at Shen Jing beside him. Apparently, the young master of the Shen family had a name similar to his—pronounced the same, though written differently.

At first, Shen Jin had thought it was merely a coincidence. But now, as he looked at Shen Jing, an inexplicable sense of danger welled up inside him, and he instinctively wanted to avoid him.

“Hello.” After taking his seat, Shen Jing turned to look at Shen Jin. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, revealing a faint, almost imperceptible smile. He looked entirely harmless.

Yet Shen Jin’s heart gave a sudden lurch. Something felt wrong. “Hello.”

“Our names are quite similar.” As Shen Jing said this, his gaze fell on Sang Yijia sitting in front of them. “I wonder if we went to the same high school.”

Caught off guard by the question, Shen Jin’s lips twitched. “Which high school did you attend?”

“The No. 1 High School in the city.” Shen Jing answered as though it were obvious. “Didn’t you?”

“Yes.” Shen Jin nodded. “I really didn’t expect fate to bind us together so deeply.”

“Indeed.” Shen Jing’s reply was full of hidden meaning.

To Sang Yijia, their conversation sounded increasingly strange. The more she listened, the more it seemed that the person the original owner had once loved was named Shen Jing—and that she had simply mistaken him for someone else.

“Is that really what happened?” Sang Yijia had traveled through books too many times, and all her memories had become tangled together. Even though she had gone over them once before, she was still an ordinary person; there was no way she could avoid confusing them.

Lu Wenchuan heard her and thought she had remembered something. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Sang Yijia shook her head. “I must have mixed up the memories.”

Lu Wenchuan’s expression immediately turned solemn. He did not know whether he should explain everything to Sang Yijia. But if he did, and she learned that the person she had once loved was Shen Jing, what would he do then?

Would Sang Yijia ask to break up?

Lu Wenchuan could not be sure.

For a while, he watched her with tightly furrowed brows, hesitating and struggling to decide what he should do.

“Ahem.” Yan Ningsi cleared her throat. “All the guests have arrived now.”

“Are you the host?” Bian He asked, attempting to liven up the atmosphere.

Yan Ningsi shot him a glare. “What does that have to do with you?”

“Yes, yes, it has nothing to do with me. It has something to do with you.” Bian He nodded repeatedly. “But if it has something to do with you, then it has something to do with me as well.”

“You’re my girlfriend now, after all.” As he spoke, Bian He glanced across the table. Xu Wei and Shen Jin were sitting apart, while Lan Qing and Shen Jing were seated together. The arrangement that had separated Xu Wei and Shen Jin was rather interesting.

“Why don’t we sit according to our pairings?” Bian He suggested.

Shen Jing was the first to raise his hand in agreement. “Sure.”

“But shouldn’t we reshuffle the pairings this time?” As he spoke, Shen Jing looked toward Sang Yijia. “Yijia, what do you think?”

“I’m with Lu Wenchuan,” Sang Yijia replied. Then she added, “We’re really together now.”

“...” Shen Jing smiled. “Yijia, you really know how to joke.”

“Oh my gosh, I knew there was something going on between you two!” Yan Ningsi exclaimed immediately after Shen Jing, her voice even louder and more excited.

Everyone’s attention was drawn to them at once.

Sang Yijia pressed her lips together. After thinking for a moment, she turned to glance at Lu Wenchuan before looking back at everyone. “I think we suit each other, so we got together.”

“Is there a problem?”

Shen Jing moved his lips, but for a long while he could not say a word. In the end, he could only admit that there was nothing wrong with what Sang Yijia had said. “That’s right. There’s no problem at all.”

“Ah, I was even planning to help Brother Lu pursue you tomorrow. Now all my plans have been ruined.” Yan Ningsi sighed regretfully.

Bian He offered a helpful suggestion. “Why not pursue me instead?”

“I think you’ve eaten too many peaches and are daydreaming.” Yan Ningsi replied.

Bian He declined to respond.

Lan Qing had never imagined that Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan would get together after only a few days of knowing each other. Such a decision seemed far too childish. Then she remembered that she herself had decided to accompany Huang Hong after only one night. How was that any different?

Lan Qing forced the corners of her lips upward and lifted her eyes toward Shen Jing. Then she extended her hand. “Hello, I’m Lan Qing.”

“Hello.” Shen Jing answered, but made no move to take her hand. “I’m sorry. There’s something wrong with me. I don’t really like direct physical contact with other people.”

Lan Qing paused, the smile on her face stiffening. She had never expected Shen Jing to reject her with such an excuse.

“I see.” Lan Qing smiled as though nothing had happened and withdrew her hand.

But Shen Jin had witnessed the entire scene. The contempt revealed by the lift of his lips was plain for Lan Qing to see, and it made her feel thoroughly uncomfortable. She wished the dinner would end as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the guests had only just arrived, and the rest of the staff had not yet all assembled.

More importantly, the staff were still filming.

Lan Qing could only endure it.

“Do you know what tomorrow’s first recording will be?” After rolling her eyes at Bian He several times, Yan Ningsi realized how childish she was being and decided she no longer wanted to pay him any attention. She turned her head and glanced at Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan. No matter how she looked at them, they seemed like a match made in heaven.

They should have gotten together long ago.

Yan Ningsi found them more and more pleasing to the eye. But when her gaze shifted to Shen Jing and Lan Qing, she fell silent for a moment before deciding that Lan Qing was not good enough for Shen Jing.

“By the way, aren’t you learning to manage the company from your elder brother?” Yan Ningsi suddenly remembered and asked Shen Jing. “Why did you suddenly come to participate in the show?”

“I only signed on for one episode, to promote something, and to serve as the company’s spokesperson while I’m here.” Shen Jing answered with a beaming smile. “Doesn’t that mean there’s another endorsement fee left to collect?”

Everyone chatted quite happily during the dinner.

Sang Yijia said very little and remained quiet the entire time. She only answered when someone asked her a question, and even then, she said no more than a sentence or two.

Lu Wenchuan had little to say either. Whenever he had the chance, he would place food in Sang Yijia’s bowl. Otherwise, he simply sat quietly, occasionally reaching behind her to toy with her long hair.

The two of them seemed strangely detached from the dinner around them.

Lan Qing noticed this, and the corners of her lips rose slightly. Someone like Sang Yijia, who had no status in the industry, was destined to be overlooked at a gathering like this.

As for Lu Wenchuan, he was merely a programmer at a large corporation. He probably spent all day dealing with code and knew nothing about socializing.

Neither of them was a rival, Lan Qing comforted herself.

Soon afterward, Yan Ningsi mentioned the Shen Corporation. Lan Qing’s ears perked up, and she belatedly realized something.

Shen Jin and Shen Jing—their names sounded similar.

Could Shen Jing be the true young master of the Shen family?

In an instant, Lan Qing’s face turned pale, then purple, then red. She realized that because of the similar pronunciation, she had treated Shen Jin as though he were the young master of the Shen family. Recalling all the hints from before, she suddenly felt her heart turn icy cold.

“She seems to have figured it out.” Sang Yijia took a sip of tea and pursed her lips. “The tea here is rather inferior.”

After living in the Sang household for some time, Sang Yijia had genuinely found it easy to grow accustomed to luxury after knowing frugality. Her tastes and everyday necessities had risen several levels.

Sang Yijia was afraid that if she ever returned to her original world, she would no longer be able to adapt to a thrifty life.
