When Uncle Chen saw that Sang Yijia had chosen an animated film, he immediately relaxed. What romantic scenes could there possibly be in a cartoon?

Yet at the very end, he saw the two characters kiss. Though the scene was not shown from the front, the fact that it was kept from children made it all the more poetic, leaving more room for imagination.

Uncle Chen quietly glanced at Sang Yijia, wondering whether she might have even the slightest interest in Lu Wenchuan.

If that was truly the case, he decided, he would have to report it to Sang Zheng.

The movie ended, and darkness had fallen outside.

After entering this room, Sang Yijia could no longer smell the salty dampness carried in by the sea breeze. The room held only a faint scent of lime.

Lu Wenchuan checked the time. “It’s time for our appointment.”

“I’m going to change.” Sang Yijia rose and stretched before looking at Lu Wenchuan. “What color scheme are you going to wear later?”

“I’ll coordinate with you.” Lu Wenchuan was rather surprised that she had taken the initiative to ask. Wasn’t this the sort of thing that usually depended on unspoken understanding?

Then he thought about it. Those things were all part of the plot, arrangements made by the author. Otherwise, how could there be so many coincidences?

“Hmm… Let me think.” Sang Yijia pondered for a moment, then turned to Auntie Zhang. “Did I bring any dresses that aren’t in shades of green?”

“Yes. There’s a light blue one,” Auntie Zhang answered carefully.

“Then light blue it is.” Sang Yijia made up her mind.

Lu Wenchuan understood. “See you later. I’ll come pick you up.”

“All right.” Sang Yijia knew that Lu Wenchuan’s room was downstairs. Neither of them was staying in the rooms arranged by the production crew.

They had given up their previous rooms, which would save the production crew quite a bit of money.

——

The production crew had arranged for all the guests to meet before filming officially began the next day. They would exchange contact information and complete the first task of the evening: wishing one another good night.

Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan arrived neither early nor late, but the sight of them entering hand in hand immediately attracted plenty of attention.

“Jiajia, over here! Over here!” Inside the private dining room were two large tables: one for the guests and one for the production staff.

Yan Ningsi was not seated at the head of the table. Lan Qing and Shen Jin were both being overly courteous, and no one had claimed the seat of honor, leaving it vacant.

Just then, Sang Yijia and Lu Wenchuan arrived.

Yan Ningsi waved Sang Yijia over.

Lu Wenchuan glanced at the head seat, then silently chose the one beside it, placing himself between Sang Yijia and Shen Jin.

Shen Jin wore a smile that did not reach his eyes. He had never imagined that the seat of honor would ultimately go to Sang Yijia.

“Long time no see, everyone.”

“Not that long. We see you every day,” Bian He replied.

The rumors surrounding Lan Qing and Shen Jin were practically on the trending searches every day. So in a sense, they really did see one another every day.

The corner of Shen Jin’s mouth twitched. He smiled, cast Bian He a sideways glance, and silently committed the remark to memory. Then he looked at Sang Yijia, completely ignoring Lu Wenchuan beside her.

“Yijia and Mr. Lu are certainly dedicated professionals.”

“Going everywhere together even at a time like this.”

“What’s wrong with going somewhere with my boyfriend?” Sang Yijia lifted her eyelids indifferently, swept him a glance, and looked away.

Her gaze was so casual that it was as though she were looking at a piece of trash on the floor.

Shen Jin’s expression darkened. “He’s only your boyfriend on the variety show.”

“I just didn’t expect you to become so dedicated now. You were never this enthusiastic before.” Shen Jin gave a cold laugh.

The atmosphere immediately turned awkward.

Xu Wei had always known that she was only coming onto the show to fill out the cast. Her contract had made it clear that she was there to form a couple pairing with Shen Jin. But even so, she could not sit beside him at this meal.

To make matters worse, Lan Qing had taken the seat next to Shen Jin. Xu Wei had originally wanted to sit beside him, but when she suddenly caught his eye, she lost her nerve.

Xu Wei chose the seat beside Lan Qing instead.

That left only the seat belonging to the male guest who had yet to appear.

“I wonder when the last male guest will arrive,” Yan Ningsi said, sensing that the atmosphere was becoming uncomfortable. She had no intention of letting things grow tense.

“That male guest’s name sounds a lot like yours,” Bian He said, as though remembering something. “His name is also Shen Jing.”

“But his ‘Jing’ is the one from the name of the legendary hero Guo Jing.”

No sooner had Bian He finished speaking than a clear male voice rang out.

“It could also be the ‘Jing’ from Li Jing.”

Shen Jing entered. At a glance, his eyes immediately fell on Sang Yijia.

“Long time no see, Jiajia.”

“?”

Everyone at the table was stunned.

Sang Yijia blinked at Shen Jing. She had no memory of ever seeing him before.

“May I ask who you are?”

“It’s me.” Shen Jing looked around. The only remaining seat was beside Shen Jin. He let out a small exclamation. “If the two of us sit together, do you think people will be unable to tell us apart?”

“Brother Lu, would you like to change seats?” Shen Jing asked with a beaming smile.

Lu Wenchuan naturally refused.

Sang Yijia searched her memory, but still could not recall the man. Her brows drew together even more tightly.

“He’s the younger son of the Shen family,” Lu Wenchuan explained. “You were classmates in high school.”

“Not in the same year.”

“He was two grades above you,” Lu Wenchuan clarified.

Sang Yijia let out a small cry of surprise. “How do you know that so well?”

“…” Lu Wenchuan fell silent for a moment.

Should he tell her? That Shen Jing had confessed his feelings to Sang Yijia during his senior year of high school?

Or that Sang Yijia and Shen Jing had once promised to attend the same university?

Lu Wenchuan remained silent for a while and said nothing.

“Jiajia, you really have forgotten me.” Shen Jing sounded genuinely hurt. “It was only five years ago—no, wait, six years ago.”

The moment Shen Jing began speaking, he noticed everyone else’s attention fixed on him. He gave a small, awkward laugh.

“This is a private matter between Jiajia and me.”

“I’ll tell you about it later.”

“How can you do that?” Yan Ningsi protested. “You’ve already told us half of it. I’ve even got my pants—”

Before she could finish, Bian He covered her mouth.

“She means the watermelon and sunflower seeds are all ready. You can’t leave everyone hanging after saying half of it,” Bian He said, glaring at Yan Ningsi. “We’re filming a show here.”

“Please, have mercy, will you?”

Yan Ningsi rolled her eyes and nodded reluctantly. The moment Bian He released her, she turned straight to Shen Jing.

“Seven years ago? Wouldn’t that have been during high school?”

“Jiajia, you really don’t remember anything?”

Sang Yijia thought carefully for a moment. She had traveled through the world of the novel several times, and the moment at which she awakened was different each time. Many of her memories had long since become tangled together.

If she truly tried to recall it, she could not come up with anything at the moment.

Lu Wenchuan coughed lightly. “It’s an old matter. We can talk about it slowly another time.”

“That’s true.” Shen Jing looked at Lu Wenchuan and narrowed his eyes with a smile. “Brother Lu is right.”

Nearby, Lan Qing clenched her hands in hatred.

Why was the guest they had found connected to Sang Yijia?

Why?

Now, whenever Lan Qing heard Sang Yijia’s name, disgust arose instinctively within her. A voice in her heart kept telling her that without Sang Yijia, her career would continue to sail smoothly.
