Chapter 137: Saying Your Taste Is Poor Seems Quite Hurtful
"What do you want to talk about?" Xu Wei looked at Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang. They didn't look like Sang Yijia's parents at all. "Who are you people?"
Xu Wei remained cautious; even if they didn't look the part, what if they actually were? It was better not to offend them.
"We are Jiajia's housekeepers," Uncle Chen replied unhurriedly. "May we come in to have a word now?"
Housekeepers? Xu Wei paused for half a second. By the time she came to her senses, Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang were already standing inside her room.
"What is it?" Xu Wei clenched her fists, wondering what she had done recently. What could Sang Yijia's housekeepers possibly want with her? Were they here to warn her?
She had heard such warnings far too many times to take them to heart.
Looking at the stern expressions on Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang's faces, Xu Wei smiled, flirtatiously tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Uncle, Auntie, if you're here to tell me to stop getting involved with Miss Sang, you might as well save your breath."
"That is indeed what we mean," Uncle Chen did not deny it.
"Miss Xu, as someone from the eldest young master's company, you should be well aware of his temperament." Aunt Zhang finally lifted her gaze to look at her.
That single glance seemed to see straight through to the depths of Xu Wei's soul.
Xu Wei's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to look away, but Aunt Zhang's gaze was too sharp. Unable to move, she was forced to meet those dark eyes, a cold sweat breaking out down her spine.
After a long silence, Xu Wei heard her own slightly trembling voice reply, "I understand."
"I won't bother Miss Sang again during the show."
Satisfied, Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang left the room, one after the other, and knocked on the door across the hall.
Chen Luo opened the door. Seeing them, she stepped aside to let them in and called out to Sang Yijia, "Sister Jiajia, Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang are back."
"Mm, I know." Sang Yijia didn't look up, her focus still fixed on her drawing tablet.
Uncle Chen glanced at her and said nothing, though Sang Zheng had already given instructions to ensure Sang Yijia limited her screen time.
Aunt Zhang went to replace the hotel room's toiletries with the ones Sang Yijia used and proceeded to disinfect and clean the bathroom.
Chen Luo watched in stunned silence, only then realizing what it meant to be a young lady from a wealthy family. She recalled the Sang Yijia from before; she hadn't been picky at all back then.
But even if she were picky, so what? Sang Yijia had the strength and status to be picky.
"Miss, it's time for a break." Uncle Chen stood behind Sang Yijia, waiting for half an hour to pass before offering his reminder.
"Just call me Jiajia," Sang Yijia said, putting down her stylus and turning to Chen Luo. "Take a look at this."
"How is it?"
Chen Luo hadn't known what Sang Yijia had been working on all afternoon, but she froze the moment she saw the drawing.
"Sister Jiajia..." Chen Luo licked her lips, eyes wide as she looked at Sang Yijia with disbelief. "Did you really draw this?"
"Mm." Sang Yijia pulled up the original reference—a photo of some wild, golden flowers she had taken on the road. They were bright and beautiful. Now, those little flowers had been transformed into elegant, classical-style maidens, rendered with incredible, intricate detail.
Chen Luo gasped, giving a thumbs-up and praising her without reservation, "Sister Jiajia, this is amazing!"
"It's alright," Sang Yijia said, a slight smile playing on her lips. "I'll post this on Weibo." It was just a regular practice piece; it looked good at first glance, but she knew that as her skills improved, she would find many flaws in it. She was very clear about that.
"Sister Jiajia, send it over to me then," Chen Luo said, assuming Sang Yijia meant her main account.
"No need." Sang Yijia had already registered a small, secondary account, and all her works were posted there.
"Oh, I see." Chen Luo sheepishly retracted her phone.
Aunt Zhang came over at that moment. "Jiajia, is it time for lunch?"
"Mm, go ahead and prepare it." Sang Yijia stood up to stretch, then turned to Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang. "Uncle Chen, Aunt Zhang, since you're finally at the seaside, you should go and relax too. You don't have to work all the time."
Aunt Zhang disagreed. "Jiajia, this is our job. We will relax when we are off the clock."
Well, Sang Yijia didn't know what else to say.
The entire floor of the hotel was reserved for the female guests. Yan Ningsi arrived in the evening and went straight to find Sang Yijia after dropping off her luggage. Chen Luo was once again tasked with opening the door.
"Hey, are you Jiajia's life assistant?" Yan Ningsi asked, remembering Sang Yijia mentioning in the group chat that she would be bringing one.
Chen Luo shook her head with a guilty expression. "I'm not the life assistant anymore; I'm a personal assistant."
With Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang around, Chen Luo felt she had no real duties. She had even learned quite a bit from Aunt Zhang, secretly thinking that if she had the chance, she might even study to get a butler certification. Being a butler was incredibly lucrative.
Chen Luo shed a tear of envy.
Yan Ningsi didn't know what was going through Chen Luo's mind. She greeted her and walked inside. Upon seeing Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhang, she paused for two seconds, finally remembering that they were the housekeepers the Sang family had arranged for Sang Yijia. She couldn't help but feel...
"Jiajia, are you used to this?" Yan Ningsi trotted over and hugged Sang Yijia from behind.
The production team had long since placed cameras in the room and retreated to work in another suite. They didn't want to intrude on the guests' private time, but they still wanted the audience to see what the guests did during their downtime.
"Jiajia, what are you working on?" Yan Ningsi looked down at the laptop. The lines of text on the screen left her stunned for a few seconds. She had caught a glimpse of a line describing a dismembered corpse and someone witnessing it by accident.
Yan Ningsi's heart tightened. "Jiajia, are you reading horror stories?"
"No, I'm writing one." Sang Yijia didn't intend to hide it, though she wasn't about to reveal her pen name either.
Yan Ningsi let out an "oh," silently stepped back, and made sure not to glance at the computer screen again.
"Jiajia, when will you be free?" Yan Ningsi stood around for a moment, feeling bored. "Brother Lu and Bian He won't arrive until tomorrow. Only the female guests have arrived today."
She had also gathered some gossip: "It seems Lan Qing has cut ties with Shen Jin."
"Mm, I know." The news was within her expectations; Sang Yijia wasn't surprised.
Yan Ningsi said, "Aren't you curious? Shen Jin's pursuit of Lan Qing was watched by the entire internet." She continued righteously, "Jiajia..."
"Yes?" The timer Sang Yijia had set went off. Once her break was over, she saved her document and closed the program before looking up at Yan Ningsi. "And?"
Yan Ningsi really wanted to say that Sang Yijia's taste in men had been poor in the past, but she felt it would be too hurtful, so the words remained stuck in her throat.
